I am unable to open either App Store, WhatsApp and Safari on MacBook Air M2

What is happening when you're trying to open up these apps?
Are you certain you're Mac is online?
Yes
When I attempt to load WhatsApp, I get a message "Unable to check for updates" in bold and then "Please check your internet connection and try again". I shut the machine down and re-boot. After loading ExpressVPN, I run First Aid on Disc Utility. I am swiftly told that the operation was successful.
Now, with the wi-fi connection apparently strong, the first thing I do is to open Safari. It loads and shows my default page. Now I try Firefox Browser: it loads. What about WhatsApp? My attempt to open generates a window that tells me I "need to install Rosetta". I am given the option to install and installation works. Then "WhatsApp" wants me to link my phone which I do and, glory be, I have my Chats page on WhatsApp inviting me to chat to the world!
So, my troubles appear to be at an end. Thank you all for your assistance.
