Nike Run Club App - Location Services issue

Hi, I’ve been using the Nike Run Club app on my Apple Watch 7 (& iphone XS) without issue until this week after I updated both my phone and watch to the latest systems. Ever since, when I try to do an outdoor run the NRC app on the watch brings up the message shown below, along with three buttons “start outdoor run”, “start indoor run” & “dismiss”. All of my settings (on watch and phone) appear correct, and unhelpfully, the “start indoor run” button does nothing when pressed. I’ve tried rebooting the watch and phone, and uninstalling/reinstalling the app on the watch, but no joy.. I’ve put off uninstalling the app on my phone as I believe it will remove all my history (which would be a minor disaster). Has anyone experienced this, better still, does anyone have a solution? Thanks!

I had this exact same thing happen to me, after updating to iOS 17 and WatchOS 10. I had tried unpairing and repairing my watch, toggled location services on and off, reinstalling the Nike Run Club app, none of which worked.

What finally worked for me was to reset location services on my phone. No guarantees this will work, but it did the trick for me, and I got to use my Apple Watch for an outdoor run again.

On your iPhone, go to the Settings app, tap General, scroll down to Transfer or Reset iPhone.

Tap Reset, then tap Reset Location & Privacy.

Give it your passcode and it will reset.

Afterwards, every app that uses location services will alert you about allowing apps to use your location, and every app that tracks your add ads will ask for permission again.

Best of luck!

I have been working with Nike NRC support team to help them try to resolve this. But with no progress after 1 week I decided to try the suggestion above to Reset Location & Privacy on my iPhone - and now the NRC app works again for Outdoor Runs!!

On your iPhone, go to the Settings app, tap General, scroll down to Transfer or Reset iPhone.

Tap Reset, then tap Reset Location & Privacy.

Give it your passcode and it will reset.

I had to open the NRC app on my iPhone and make sure that the NRC settings for my watch showed that Location Services were on, and enable all Health data again. Then when I tried to start an Outdoor Run in the NRC app on my watch - it asked me if I wanted to give permission to NRC to use my location.  I selected the option 'when using app' and then the NRC app successfully started an Outdoor Run.  I have tested this for additional Outdoor Runs and everything seems to work fine now.

So the resolution was to reset Location & Privacy settings on my iPhone.

I had the same problem. I just bought the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 and was excited about doing an outdoor run. I received the same Location Services message. I got around it and went for a run with Nike Run Club app. After I returned home I found out that the app did not record my running route. No map at all. I tried a different running app today and it mapped my run, so the problem must be with the NRC App. I love this app and have been using it for years so I hope the issue gets resolved soon. I checked all my settings and location services are on for the NRC app but I noticed that every time I select it on my watch there are no location services arrows. So I think the app may have a glitch with the new Apple updates/software.

I'm having the same problem with the NRC (Nike Running Club) app. I have Apple Watch Ultra 2 running watchOS 10.0.2 with my iphone using iOS 17.0.2. I'm having the same problem - tried to start an Outdoor Run and got the "Location Services Required" error message from the screen shot above. I follow the screen advice to 'Start Outdoor Run' and tap that - nothing happens. The screen stays the same. I clicked on 'Dismiss' and checked all of my app, watch and iphone settings - everything is correct and Location Services is enabled. Tried to start another Outdoor Run and still the same error. Finally instead of tapping 'Start Outdoor Run' error I gave up and tapped 'Start Indoor Run' and the NRC app started just fine for an Indoor Run even though I was running outside.

I called the NRC Help LIne at NIke and reported the problem to them also. The Nike customer support rep wasn't very empathetic or helpful - just took my information and told me that someone from Nike would contact me.

I don't want to reset my iphone and all of the apps as suggested above so I'm going to wait to see if Nike can fix this issue.
