Apple Photos Will Not Import .mov Files

repost from wind engineer since apparently problems are resolved and we don't need the ability to keep a thread alive: "I noticed others trying to import .mov files into Apple Photos, unsuccessfully. I could not continue replying to the thread, so I must start a new one. In OSX Monterey, right clicking on an .mov file will reveal “Encode” at the very bottom. Select it, and the resolution maximum (1080p or whatever) and then hit “OK” and it will fix the problem."

So here is my addition to this. This did not work for me. A lot of work to continue this conversation, Apple! When I hit encode on the .mov file I wanted to import to the photos app it successfully created a second file. I tried importing it and it failed. So I tried the original in case I didn't understand which file was being manipulated and it failed as well. At least for me running up to date softer on my macbook I was unable to import a .mov file.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.6
