Apple Cash SSN

  • Made a typo when entering SSN.
  • Surprisingly, it passed through.
  • There's no way to re-verify identity on the app or anywhere else.
  • Contacted Apple and Green Dot Bank 5+ times
  • They all concluded, "The only solution is to close the whole iCloud account and make a new one"
  • That doesn't make sense for me.
  • Has anyone else solved the issue?

After weeks of calls back and forth...


"We are in receipt of the complaint that you filed and are providing a response to your concerns.... We reviewed your concerns and determined that we are unable to close your Apple Cash account or update the associated Social Security Number. You may open a new Apple Cash account with updated information by creating a new Apple ID and visiting www.apple.com/apple-cash/ or by opening the wallet app on your mobile device."


Doesn't seem it got it fixed. What are the other options?

  • I satisfied all the conditions and called Apple Support with the number you provided.
  • First, they said the system gave an error when they tried to close my account.
  • Then, they said they would create a case to review and investigate the account, which may take up to 48 hours.
  • Even after the review process, they said they "cannot close the account" for some reason. No reason was specified.
  • They said, "the best bet for you is to create a new Apple Account."

And because of my FRB complaint and my "notification" of this, Green Dot Bank locked me out of my Apple Cash for the rest of my life with my Apple ID. Not that I planned to use Apple Cash (since it may have triggered some legal troubles), but it is still an extremely frustrating decision by Greed Dot Bank. They never knew that I entered the wrong number. They just figured out because I called them, and now they're saying "oops there's nothing we can do. Delete your entire Apple ID account."
