Categories Auto Sum Not Working

Hi all,

I've been using Numbers categories to track a large workset of data.

I just picked up that some of the auto-sums for each category aren't adding up / functioning properly, which in in turn has made the overall number show incorrectly.

Has anyone else ran into this problem or found a solution?

Manually switching from no summary to sum has worked for some as a temporary fix but not for example below.

Many thanks

Make sure all the cells in that column (and all the others too) are formatted as currency and that none are text.

The typical reason why a SUM, or in this case the category sum, has an incorrect answer is that some or all of the values being summed are text, not actual numbers. It is a common problem. The math operators +-*/ work on text-formatted numbers but the functions (and the category math functions) ignore text, even text that looks like numbers or currency. I sometimes wonder why the math operators accept them but the math functions do not. It is probably something we can blame on Microsoft Excel and it has flowed down to everyone else who wants to be compatible with Excel.
