I lost my ringtones after iPhone iOS 17 update

when updating my phone most recently to the new iOS 17, I have lost all of my personalized tones and ringtones. I have tried going through iTunes and other sources, but nothing ever shows up to be able to personalize any of the ringtones as we used to before this update is this a glitch or is this the new way that Apple is presenting the ringtones?

I lost all my Text tones, I had everything custom when I updated my phone I lost it I’m trying to get them back is there anyway to get them back! This is ridiculous you pay for these expensive phones and because you upgrade thinking that you’re going to get better techniques on the updates and instead you lose stuff! Ridiculous

I have tried to contact Apple you don’t know which app to go on even if it’s Apple support in the long run they want you to pay for helping you correct your problem! This is ridiculous !!! Everything was fine on my phone then things changed. Can’t get my Text tones even though I’ve got my music downloaded for Text tones I can’t get to them. I hate this! When you install an update, you’re supposed to get things better not worse. and I can’t get a contact Support person to help without having to put in a credit card number. If this is the case, I may give up my Apple phone and go to something else.

I'm not sure about you, but in my case, all my ringtones and alert tones carried over, however, when I want to assign one, it will only give me the tones for that function. For instance, if I want to set a ringtone but I want to use a custom text tone that had used before for a ring tone, it won't even show me that tone or any other text tones, only ringtones. If I want to set a ringtone as a text tone, I cannot do that because it will only show me text tones. This was not the case in previous iOS and it's frustrating me to no end because even ones that I purchased as ringtones from Apple are very short and should be classified as a text tone and vice versa. I think this is a bug. I hope it is a bug that they will fix and not a new 'feature'.

For all those on this forum re the ring and text tones.

Here is the issue:

  1. Apple did not delete any ring or text tones. They moved the old ones to 'CLASSIC.'
  2. Before 17.0, ringtones could be used as text tones and vice versa. NO MORE. Ring tones can only be used as ringtones; the same applies to text tones - no crossover.
  3. In Mac OS, the latest and newest update of 14.3 / Sonoma, did the same thing on Messages. In Message settings, all the available text tones are now updated, and the same application applies as in iOS.
  4. Unless Apple has future updates to allow ringtones to be used as text tones as in previous years, remains to be seen.

Changes in one's life can be upsetting and frustrating. When one finally acquiesces to the inevitable, it's easier to accept.

My suggestion is for all to let Apple know about allowing the crossover. Let's hope the public will act as an impetus for Apple to comply.

Good luck!

I have iPad Pro max and iPhone 14 Pro max I just searched and found my prior p purchased tones and ringtones in default alerts. If you go to sound and haptics in iPhone, ringtone and alerts at the very bottom, you’ll see default alerts press on that and you should see your old alerts. Hope that helps.
