earphones USB C-Cable does not work on my Macbook Air M2

When i plug in earphones (USB-C cable) into my computer (macbook air 13 ) it doesn't work and the sound comes out of the built in speakers. the buttons in the earphones works fine, like it turns the volume up and down and pauses and resumes the video, but the voice is not heard from the earbuds
