ios 17.0.1 talk to text doesn't work

when you hit the talk to text button a blue dot appears in the text box and none of the speech appears in the box. if you say hey siri it activates but it doesn't hear

I switched the keyboard from english us to english uk and talk to text works but I get extra an extra u in some words. I guess I wait for the next update.

CarPlay voice to text stopped working since iOS16 update Since updating to iOS 16, I can’t respond to texts or send texts via CarPlay. I’ve tried restarting, disconnecting and reconnecting, as well as a myriad of other online suggestions to no avail. more detail: when Siri asks if I’d like to reply, it’s like it doesn’t hear me, and times out. If I hit the Siri icon, it hears me, thinks for a bit, says it’s trying, and says there was an error. The same behavior occurs when I try to send a message from scratch.
