if i buy a new iPhone and trade in a old one, can i transfer my data to my new one once i get the new one?

Yes. You can either make a backup before hand and use it to transfer the data to the new one, or if buying online, you have 14 days to send in the old one for trade in after receiving the new one, in which time you can set up the new one and transfer your data.
