Since updating to WatchOS 10.0.1, the watch battery charges only to 80% overnight and the battery drains more quickly than before the update. I also updated my iPhone 14 pro to iOS 17 around the same time. Would this impact the watch battery?

As many here I was affected by the constant battery drain of approx. 5% per hour and I think I found what was causing this for me.
When I checked the Watch App on my phone ==> General ==> About it showed that it synced 15 photos even though I have not selected any photos or albums to sync.
Opening the photos app on the watch confirmed that and showed that there are no photos on the watch.
I then selected an album with one picture to sync and the photo count went up to 16. Next I created a photo watch face and set it to dynamic and suddenly the watch showed random pictures that I never selected to sync. I searched for these photos on my iPhone and deleted them from there until the watch only showed 1 picture being synced, which was the one from the album. I then changed the watch face back from dynamic to album and left the face on the watch.
I did this on Tuesday. Yesterday, on Wednesday my watch was at 37% after wearing it without additional charging for almost 17 hours. Usually it would have been dead after 14 hours max. Today I took the watch off the charger at 7:30, at 8:41 it jumped to 99% where it would have been at 94% or even less before and now at 12:30 it is still at 87% which is 2.6%/hour.
I think the constant photo sync would be a good explanation for this issue as the watch would constantly download new pictured from the phone and would index them. In addition to that it would also explain why not everyone is affected by this since this would not apply to people having their photo sync configured to sync specific albums rather than the watch syncing random photos when nothing is selected for the photo sync. And it would also explain why resetting the watch doesn't help to fix this issue since the watch would start randomly syncing photos again after the reset.
Might be worth to check/try for others.
@tchavdar that’s discouraging. I just installed 10.1.1 on my Apple Watch 9 & 17.1.1 on my iPhone 12. My watch charged to 100% without having to be turned off before being put on the charger, which is an improvement. I’m anxious to see what the watch battery drain rate is throughout the day. 🤞
When will Apple sort this out. My apple watch series 9 has been inoperable for two weeks now. I The update process takes forever and then it gets stuck on preparing. So i cant update to 10.1.1 which is supposed to fix these problems that apple has bestowed on me.
Battery is draining in 3 hours from full charge on the wrist and 5hrs off my wrist.

My five series lost .25 percent within an hour. It does not last only 8 hours. It is very frustrating. I called customer service, but they have not heard about the problem. It is a way for Apple to get you to buy another watch.
Totally not true. I never had a MobyFace on my watch and have experienced the battery draining issue, as have others. I called Apple support for an issue with my MacBook Pro and asked when the update for the Apple Watch was coming out for the battery issue and she had the nerve to say there is no issue, Apple doesn't know anything about that, it's a hardware problem. WOW!! I told her to take a look at the pages of posts on this site to educate herself!
I hoped that the uppdate 10.1.1 would fix the battery drain on my Apple Watch 5 but it diden´t. I have unpaired it and set it up as a new watch. And i have removed the few third party apps i had but it diden´t help.
Besides the battery drain I am experiencing another issue. I have an Ultra watch and have downloaded music on the watch to listen to while working out. After the update I had to reload the music. Now it won't load some of the music and I will also get a notice on the phone "song not available " error while trying to download it.
I have series 8 version 10.1.1 (21S71) and since doing the update last week its just DYING. At first i thought it didnt charge the night before. Watched it last night, got the alert it was complete. Put it on ab 630am and by 1120am I had 10% remaining.
What has anyone found out in regards to this issue?!
Same issue here. I used to get two 1.5-hour workouts and 24 hours of battery prior to the latest update 10.1.1, and now I get less than 8 hours. I charged the watch to 100% at 9:30a this morning and it's now at 13% in less than 8 hours of normal use. No apps are running and now I have to charge it again to record a workout.
Still having issues. The 10.1.1 didn’t fix anything.
Don’t have 3rd party app that people are blaming.
Having to charge watch twice daily, having to charge it to 100% daily was enough of a hassle but this is too much.
I didn’t get a smart watch for it to spend approximately 2 hours charging per day. I don’t have a desk job and charging it in the work van is a joke.
Fully charged in the morning. An hour later, the battery is 83%, no activities on the watch and no notifications has been enabled. Currenlty it sits at about 40% which did not use to happen before the new update. Please correct whatever is draining the battery life.
I think it started even before the update it's weeks now. No improvement at all. Not even after complete re-pairing.
For sure not a hardware issue. If this is to encourage people buy to a new watch, well.... Yeah, but then it won't be an apple watch any more, I assure you. Very disappointed!
I upgraded to OS 10 last night and today my phone drained from 100% to zero in three hours. I recharged the 95% and it dropped to 2% in about three hours. The watch is less than three months old. Prior to the upgrade, it would go 16 hours and still have 30% left.
I dono what happened to Apple team- previously they were responding too fast and problems were easy to be fixed , a drop on battery life up to 50% is a disaster. Do something about it - even this IOS 10.1.1 doesn't make a big difference . just do your %$^$^ job and fix it instead of going on youtube waiting for a lunatic to tell us unpair the watch and dip it in green water then read some VODO stuff and it will get back to normal /. So boring and frustrating from Apple
I have turned off photo sync, the watch was taken off charge this morning at 06:00 and it is now sitting at 27% this is so wrong in all aspects and as end users we deserve some answers and a solution.
When using the cell module to stream radio while jogging it now lasts 15-20 minutes!!!! While reproducing stored music (no streaming) it dies after 30-40 minutes and by just wearing it it reaches 10% after 10 hours!!! Watch series 4…
