iPhone 15 CarPlay Not Working

My Apple CarPlay worked great on my iPhone 14, and does not work with the new iPhone 15 USB-c. The car only has a USB port, and I’ve tried multiple USB to USB-C cables and none work. What’s going on? It’s a 2023 Mazda CX-30

Same thing with the 2017 Honda civic and my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’m honestly disappointed to see that Apple hasn’t addressed this yet. I love this phone but I love CarPlay more, and I might have to switch to something else if this isn’t resolved.

using a MacBook Pro usb-c cable and a USB-c jack to USB-A to connect with a Yaris s 2022 doesn’t work, but same adapter using the cable that came with the iPhone 15, works…

both original apple cable… I cannot believe it, 5 cables tried to not use another new one, and keep using the previous cable I have… that’s not good…

I have not updated my situation in a while. 2022 Wrangler Rubicon 8.4" Connect. iPhone 15 Pro unlocked.

As previously posted, I spent around $80 trying various cables (yes, including Apple's useless USB C Lightning adapter). The previous Apple Support tech I was working with quit responding !?! I got a new Apple Support tech who sent me a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 3 (super thick) cable. I probably achieve connection 75% of the time with this cable. However, there are steps I need to go thru for it to work.

Rubicon must have been locked previous. iPhone 15 Pro must be unlocked (yes, I have selected under CarPlay to function with LockScreen, but seems to not recognize) when I plug the Thunderbolt cable to the iPhone. Then I can start the Rubicon. Upon starting, Connect displays "CarPlay" as soon as it boots through its start screens.

The various apps seems to mostly work, but, Messages is funky. I do not always get audible onscreen message notifications. I have to tap the screen to send a message.

The phone has never had an issue with charging, though seems to get a bit warm with the Thunderbolt cable.

At this point, I am wondering if it is a problem specific to my iPhone. Apple has NOT offered to exchange the iPhone and this has been happening since end of September. I have sent logs 3x , spent nearly 14 hours on the phone with Apple, done every reset, reinstall, etc. I buy every new iPhone model when it is released and I am regretting not keeping my problem free iPhone 14 Pro.

I have 2023 Buick and I’ve tried in multiple places because I thought it might need a stronger connection. I just had no luck trying sooooo many ideas. I’ll be really upset if this doesn’t work. I’ve had so many issues with this phone and I’ve only had a few days. I’ve had to reset my password on quite a few sites. It’s like the phone wants its own beginning on each site.

I have a 2020 dodge ram 2500. CarPlay works great with my iPhone 12 and 14. Never had a problem. My iPhone 15 works approximately 10% of the time with no rhyme or reason why it does or does not work. It will start working for a few minutes and then stop working. On a road trip an hour and a half and all of a sudden it starts working completely on its own. I’ve called Customer Service three times and each time they would wind up having me call someone else. This last time I spent an hour and 40 minutes on the phone with them Before they gave up and told me I needed to take it in to the dealership to have a software update. For multiple reasons, I would like to go back to my 14. Carried two phones for about seven years. And wouldn’t you know it that one phone started to crash three weeks before the launch of the 15 and the second one started to crash three or four days before the 15. That doesn’t really have anything to do with the CarPlay issue. I’m just venting my frustration.

Here’s a curveball: my family all got new iPhone 15s. Have a 2020 Wrangler. My husband can connect to my CarPlay but my daughter and I can’t. All using the same port and the same cable. None of us had issues with our 12’s. Mine sporadically works but disconnects as soon as I open maps. Daughter’s won’t connect to her traverse at all. Why would two phones not work but one does? All on same version, same models, same cords. So frustrated and this could push me to the Samsung world.

iPhone 15 Pro Max, 2019 BMW and CarPlay works better than it ever has. Much more responsive, connects faster than with my iPhone 11 pro. Connects thru Bluetooth or cable. Just throwing this out there, because I had the problem in the beginning too. More than one person has mentioned the Google Maps app as the culprit. Delete the app and try connecting, then restore the app. In my case, I updated everything on my phone, IOS and ALL Apps. Then totally cleared my cars system of ALL phones and reset it to factory. I actually did the factory reset on the car multiple times to make sure everything was reset. I know it shouldn't be this hard, but I finally got it to work.

Another data point: iPhones 7,X,13 all worked fine on wired only 2019 Nissan Leaf, but 15 Pro Max doesn’t work at all (“check USB device” from car display). The same cable works fine syncing to a Mac and works fine on a cable only 2023 Honda Odyssey Carplay, though there were some negotiating steps to be done for the Honda. Perhaps the older Nissan doesn’t do the right negotiation but in that case I’d still say Apple engineers can fix the issue be letting me put the phone into whatever state the older phones are in.

I really doubt many here are having cable issues - most USB cables will move data - not at blinding speeds, but fast enough to stream music or display maps.

Of course I’ll try to solve the problem on the car end but that often is impossible. Apple please help.

I was in the same boat as you. Toyota RAV4 with apple carplay over USB-A. iPhone 13 worked fine with apple lighting to USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-A adapter.

iPhone 15 with apple USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-A adapter - no good.

I tried a few different cables - no good. I then tried my USB-C cable that came with my external SSD drive. This is a thicker cable and appears a higher quality - it works!

With further investigation I discovered the USB-C cable apple supplies with iPhone 15 is of a lower standard. This is to create a market for their USB-C thunderbolt cable. I presume a thunderbolt cable would also work.

This may be the end of everything Apple for me. It's been proven that CarPlay is a safer mode of driving than trying to change stuff from your phone while driving. All iPhone users have been forced to do EVERYTHING from their phones and now they disable the one thing to keep us safe while driving. I would go back to my iPhone 12 but it died (probably another Apple plan) and can't be recovered. This absolutely makes this IPhone 15 almost unusable since I drive for a living!!!
