Hi, just to let people know I have both arms fully tattooed down to the wrist. I have tried various workarounds with sticking see through plasters, bottle caps etc to the back of the watch and all work to a degree but if you buy tattoo artist second skin on Amazon etc it works perfectly…stick it to the area under the watch directly on your skin. Just change the sticker when you shower. I have full functionality with my series 8.

Confirming wrist detection is still not fixed. I read that the newest watch os update was supposed to fix it but my Ultra 2 will not register as on my wrist unless the sensor is in a tiny little spot on my wrist that isn’t tattooed. I got my watch just before Christmas 2023.

Whoop has a firmware specifically designed for tattoos. I had the same problem and they changed the firmware on my device and never had the problem again. Apple will hopefully do something similar eventually.

Sorry! Whoop is another device (not Apple related) for monitoring body metrics and exercise performance. My point there was whoop has a watch-like device with a similar sensor on the back and managed to find a way to make the sensor work through tattoos. I am hoping Apple can do the same considering the cost 😅

side note: I found these bottle cap pendant epoxy circles with reviews suggesting it works to help the sensor. So far my watch has stayed unlocked on my wrist since I put it on the sensor! Im sure we’d all really prefer the watch to just work correctly on tattooed skin but it’s decent a work around for now.
