iPhone 15 Pro Max Back Glass Durability

Hello, I’m interested in purchasing an iPhone 15 pro max, I have seen online that this model breaks very easily (back glass breaks with minimal pressure- JerryRigsEverything video). Has anyone else experienced this?

I don’t agree with this at all. My new iPhone 15 pro dropped from my pocket, with a good case on, just like all my other phones have at some point and it landed face first. The entire back is shattered as well as the glass around the camera lenses and the back never even touched the ground in the fall(front was 100% fine). This would not have happened with my other iPhones. I have been extremely underwhelmed by this phone and regret the purchase.

Will you please share all the data you’ve collected? That will help the rest here make a sound decision before purchasing.

I searched this discussion forum from last year and on the internet, and only found one offs for the 14PM. TBH, I didn’t search for prior years as that’s what I have currently.

If you find any technical articles on how the 15PM is built and why it’s just as durable despite the design change of the frame and removable back glass, please share those too. Looks like we both have a similar background in IT, so I’ll understand.

I saw the CR test, that was cool to see how they test them.  However, I personally prefer real world tests. Like bumping a packed fanny pack into a grocery cart and the back glass breaking.

Glad you’re enjoying the 15PM!

Same I was sitting on edge of bed . I pulled my brand new 15 out of the box. The phone was slippery. Fell less than 18” Back glass and camera broke. This was just un boxing getting ready to put into phone case . Yes I had insurance and it cost $279 to get it fixed. I am not alone on this and would like my payment back required to fix it. . . . . I want my money back I paid to get fixed. Too many complaints on this I 15 glass

I have had the iPhone 15 pro for 10 days and had so many issues. Today, the front glass cracked while it had a case on it and dropped from 6 inches on a smooth surface. The glass is flimsy and was already having sensitivity issues. This has been the worst phone yet. Wait until they fix kinks or get the next one. I'm super frustrated with having traded my iPhone 13 pro in for it.

There are many videos showing how fragile the back glass is. I mean, yes, not every phone can survive every drop in the same way. It may depend on the angle or where exactly it hits the place but 15 pro max clearly shatters and loses pieces of glass from its rear glass and you are very likely to end up with a phone with missing glass pieces in the rear, which is not the case with 14 pro max. Apple must take into account user feedback and so something about this. In countries like Turkey where iPhone is really really expensive, it is a complete turn off. IPhone 15 pro Max's base model, for example, costs as much as 8 months of my rent here.

He should not have been able to utterly destroy the device with moderate pressure from his thumbs. That didn’t happen on the 14, 13, 12… If it can break that easily, it can surely break in your pocket or bag. The phone has to be carried somewhere, it’s a phone, not a laptop. It should be able to withstand normal pressures. Never mind that a piece of dust seems capable of scratching the titanium casing significantly. That’s more delicate than is reasonable and not what should be acceptable for the top of the line phone that’s over $1,000.

This may be the most severely flawed iPhone yet. Which is a shame because outside of durability it looks and feels beautiful and has really great upgrades. But all of that means nothing if it can scratch and break just by putting it in your pocket which is what anyone does with a phone. My 12 pro was dropped and beat up more than I care to remember and it was indestructible. It’s like the 15 pro is made out of papier-mâché or something.

I don't think that's the issue.

We don't know the type of the floor, the angle, or the part of your phone that hit the floor when you dropped it. No phone is unbreakable and we don't expect that from phones, it is against physics.

But the new series has to be, at least, as strong as its predecessor, or possibly, stronger than it.

iPhone 15PM fails radically in that sense.

There are controlled tests showing clearly iPhone 15PM is way too fragile than 14. Even not compared to the previous iPhones, iPhone 15PM is quite weak itself.

Maybe it’s just me but…I would expect my phone to crack if I dropped it on a gravel path (especially if it wasn’t in a case). The times it didn’t crack for you in the past seems like amazing luck more than anything. I have been lucky and never cracked a screen or back glass BUT I usually keep mines in a case or when it’s not in a case there are certain situations I wouldn’t have my phone out in hand if I could avoid it (like if I were on a gravel path). Not a knock on you or anything. It’s just always interesting to me to see when people have experienced cracking multiple phones. I’m clumsy…drop my phone way too much which is why I use a case. Nothing fancy or super bulky but I know if I don’t use something I would probably drop my phone way more than I already do lol
