“Could not set up Apple Pay an error occurred while setting up Apple Pay”. Upgraded to Apple Watch 9 and am getting this error on all cards amd Apple Cash.

I’ve tried turning phone and watch on and off, and, because I had previously had Quick Actions and briefly had Assistive Touch turned on, I turned those both off. Under assistive touch, when I toggle off “confirm with assistive touch”, it turns itself back on. Not sure if that’s related (another post mentioned it may be), but I’m stuck and need some advice. Thanks!

The above issue does not affect all users.


Please follow the steps below.


1) Unpair your iPhone and Apple Watch.


2) Force restart both devices


Force restart iPhone - Apple Support


Restart Apple Watch - Apple Support

Scroll down the article for instructions on force restarting your watch.


Please pair both devices and try setting up Apple Pay.


Set up Apple Pay - Apple Support


If you still can’t setup Apple Pay please contact Apple Support.
