iTunes 12.10.11.2 won't download podcasts any more
This is a continuation of iTunes won't download podcasts - Apple Community, which has not been resolved.
I narrowed the issue to the following:
At some point the podcast URL format changed, allowing the addition of flags to the URL. So instead of just https://play.podtrac.com/npr-344098539/traffic.megaphone.fm/NPR5749236058.mp3 you now see formats such as https://play.podtrac.com/npr-344098539/traffic.megaphone.fm/NPR5749236058.mp3?d=2895&size=46798516&e=1191395134&t=podcast&p=344098539 or https://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/pdst.fm/e/chrt.fm/track/4EB79A/pscrb.fm/rss/p/traffic.megaphone.fm/GLSS3586488719.mp3?updated=1695075636.
This version of iTunes, which is the only one available for Windows 7, can't handle it. It gives an error when trying to download the file.
I know that this version is no longer supported. However, there are a lot of users that still use it, since they are reluctant to move from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (this is not the place to discuss the reasons for that) and later versions of iTunes won't install on Windows 7. Can't the mighty Apple release an update to this software that would still run on Windows 7, but be able to handle the current URL format? Seems pretty simple, and this would solve this serious issue that all Windows 7 users are suffering from.
