Since the iOS 17 update I have not been able to assign a ringtone as a text tone. How can I do this now?
I’ve even gone and bought new ringtones and told it to assign the tone as a text tone to a specific contact yet no luck!! Why??

That is no longer an option. Text tones can't be longer than 30 seconds. You can let Apple know what you'd like to see here:
Meanwhile, you might consider going to Settings>Notifications>Messages>Customize Notifications>Repeat Alerts and set it to 10 times.
Apple fix this! Any of the stock tones, text or ring, should be assignable as either a text tone or a ring tone, like before iOS 17.
Well I would like to hear one tone for text or phone for one person so I don’t have to memorize more tones than needed for each person to be identified.

I agree that the changes made to ringtones and text tones are not acceptable and this should be returned to pre-iOS17 standards, this was not a good thing to do to longtime loyal iPhone users.
