Use the Control Center explains how to open it after installing watchOS 10:
"To open Control Center, press the side button (for watchOS 9 or earlier, touch and hold the bottom of the screen, then swipe up). You can open Control Center from any screen."

This was a useful, easy to access feature and I find the change counterintuitive and annoying.
Tell Apple what you would like to see instead via
The more users that send feedback, the more likely it will reach a decision maker.

I know. It’s annoying! I tried to go back to my old I watch but I still had to update it and it won’t let me not update it 🙄 hopefully Apple will fix this!
Do not hope. Send Apple Feedback
If enough users send feedback, then it is more likely a decision maker will see it.
Well I just tried it again and it works!
I copied the phase and put it in notes on the iPad. Had the iPad speak the phase and it worked. The watch didn’t respond to ‘Hey Sire’. So I hit the crown on the watch to bring up Siri… had the iPad say ‘Open Control Center’… and it worked!

Yes 100 percent same.
I use Siri all the time to open other apps, so this was my first instinct when trying to find an alternate way to open Control Center.

i definitely prefer the swipe, much easier, no brainer…
kinda matches the easy swipe on my iPhone- who would have thought the swipe for control center on the watch would disappear after the swipe became so prominent on the phone
You should definitely tell Apple:
Product Feedback - Apple
I definitely like just asking Siri to open Control Center. Less finger prints on the screen.
Don’t!! I literally only figured this out today because I was going to reset my watch to try to get the screen back and it accidentally showed up when I pushed the start button!

If enough users send feedback, it will make it to a decision maker.
This was all described in the update documentation→watchOS 10 - Apple
But, of course, no one reads update notes.
I disabled holding the side button to trigger SOS. You can do this in settings/SOS/Hold Side Button

Also, I could be mistaken but I thought there use to be a battery widget but I can’t find it now.
Do you mean you think there used to be a battery indicator in the Watch Control Center? Those are not widgets but , there is a battery status indicator. If you don't see it, you may need to edit what you see.
Use Control Center on Apple Watch - Apple Support
Or to you mean you saw a Widget for battery status in the Smart Stack?
Use the Smart Stack to show timely widgets on Apple Watch - Apple Support
I don't seem to recall one but I haven't really used Smart Stack much yet.
I experienced the same problem as everyone else. Write to Apple & let them know to give us back the swipe. I did. The more dissatisfied users they hear from the more likely they will make the change.

I can’t access the control centre at all now 🤬🤬🤬
Swiping up was easy but my side button is all gummed up and doesn’t work. Frustrated as I ping my phone LOTS!
I also clear the water/sweat out regularly using this function.
Furthermore I have a protective cover on my phone that renders the side button unusable even if it wasn’t gummed up. Is there a different way to access control centre or haven’t you considered these scenarios?????
“Hey Siri, find my iPhone”
There is no alternative way to bring up Control Center.
This may help with activating Control Center
Getting the press and release timing just right can be an issue. You can make it more reliable by changing:
Settings -> Accessibility -> Side Button Click Speed
“Side Button Click Speed” can adjust the press and release timing, so you get the Control Center display every time. Adjusting The “Side Button Click Speed” is also useful for Apple Pay’s double press and release. There is “Default” (sub second timing of needed), “Slow” (up to a second between press and release), and “Slowest” (up to 2 seconds between press and release). I like the “Slow” setting.
NOTE: Slow and Slowest settings do not mean you have to wait a full second or 2 seconds between press and release. It just means you do not need to be super fast.
Apple does not read this user-to-user technical support forum for feedback.
But you can send Apple feedback via:
If enough users send feedback, it is more likely a decision maker will see it, and maybe take action.

Please give me my control center back with a swipe of my finger. It has taken me weeks to find out it was moved to an inconvenient side bar. This is an aweful change. Put it back!
It isn’t going to happen. And if you had read the update notes that were attached to the update you would have known immediately about this change, as well as many other enhancements in WatchOS 10→watchOS 10 - Apple
And it is a wonderful change! You can now get to the Control Center from ANY watch app, not just the time display screen.
i wonder what they were thinking when they came up with this illogical move, like imagine having to also press side button to open control center on iPhone, i hope they revert it to how it was in the future

You can certainly let Apple know how you feel here:

Thank you for this info, super helpful. Shame they changed this, one of the things I actually really liked about the apple watch was that feature. Now it is three movements instead of two, not a fan but really appreciate you sharing.
