bluetooth hearing aids lose audio when pausing since iOS 17 update

I've been using my iPhone 13 Pro with my Phonak hearing aids for a year. It's been great. I love the convenience of being able to turn music or podcasts on and off easily.

But after I upgraded to iOS 17 (and 17.0.1), whenever I pause by tapping the hearing aid, if I try starting again, the phone plays and shows that it's playing through the Bluetooth connection, but I can't get audio unless I switch the audio to "Phone" and then back to hearing aids.

If I use the phone to pause, it doesn't have this issue.

This happens regardless which audio app I'm using, whether Apple or 3rd party, and when it happens, I don't hear system sounds like alarms, either.

Note: I can't confirm 💯 that the problem started immediately after the iOS update. I know it started after the update, but I don't recall whether I used my phone to listen (and thus pause with the hearing aid) within the first day or 2. So I'm trying to troubleshoot from both the phone and hearing aid angles for a solution.
