Donating my MacBook Air and want the hard drive overwritten

I want to donate my MacBook Air but over the years I have used this for highly sensitive work and personal data. Although I have deleted the data and removed the apps I am worried the hard drive still has data that a hard drive file utility could restore. How can I essentially clean all that off?
