how can I get around this and shouldn't there just be one password for all things Apple?

You should just have one Apple ID, and that would be used for everything. However, if you created a separate iTunes account and can't remember your password see the document below.

There is (most often) one account for your Apple devices and services. Some users have multiple accounts, but that is often more complicating than helpful. Your iTunes password would be same as your Apple ID password.

Thanks. Yes, that's what I thought.

I got through to support for Apple TV and apparently our box is too old and it messing up b/c of 2 factor auth.

I've got a workaround where I enter my password then an authentication code on the back of it to account for the 2-factor.

All set.

Thanks very much for the article.

Cheers, Andy

You're welcome, and yes that is how one works around 2FA on older models. Unfortunately, issues like that will be more common there and most 3rd party providers have dropped support for their content as well. There may come a time when more things occur, just due to the age and lack of support.

Even if you get a used 4th gen you will have access to native apps and current updates from Apple. Have a good day.
