Can't set Safari home page

I have followed all suggestions from community support but can't reset my Safari home page to Safari. It just goes to the Apple website with ads for newest iPhone 15. I go to Safari>Preferences>General and under Homepage I type in https://www.apple.com/startpage/ -- it just goes to Apple website. There is no place to enter my serches

Hi MEWzz,

When entering the url that you provided, it indeed does redirect to the Apple website ads for the iPhone 15. The address that you enter in that field will determine which website opens. If you'd like to use a search engine such as DuckDuckGo as shown in your screenshot, you would enter https://duckduckgo.com in that field.

If you've already followed those steps and they are still not working for you, then we recommend that you contact Apple Support directly so that they can work with you to find a solution.

You can reach them by clicking here: Apple Support or calling the most local number in your region: Contact Apple for support and service.

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

Hi MEWzz,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you might be getting the correct results with page that you've mentioned. That would take you to the main Apple webpage. What is it that you're trying to do exactly?

Since you mentioned looking for a search bar, perhaps you are trying to set a search engine as your default. You can find that from Safari > Settings > Search. Further settings are mentioned in Change settings in Safari on Mac - Apple Support.

You might also be looking for a way to make new windows or tabs open with your homepage. If that's the case, check out Change your home page in Safari on Mac - Apple Support.

All the best.

When I open Firefox or Chrome a browser page comes up automatically. (See attached screen shot.) I am trying to get that to happen with Safari. I have tried to set the default homepage, but when I type in the recommended homepage address (https://www.apple.com/startpage/ that sends me to an Apple site with big ads for iPhone 15. What should I type to set my homepage?
