StandBy mode in 17.0.2 keeps resetting customization back to apple's default settings

In the past 7 days with iOS 17 on my device (first the 13 Pro and as of Friday, the 15 Pro - same problem on both), the settings have reset back to the default StandBy layout/widgets/settings twice. Each time was about three days apart.

In case its helpful, I turned off both Smart Rotate and Widget Suggestions, plus I removed all but one widget on both stacks so it remains as a clock dial on the left and the month view from the calendar on the right. Each time it resets on its own, it turns back on the Smart Rotate and adds back in all 12 widgets (six on each side).

Not a huge deal, but clearly a bug and definitely annoying.

I finally found a fix for this which may have actually been a few different things.... One, I am running 17.3.1, but was still having the problems of my widgets not staying selected.

If you long press on one of the widget sides, you can toggle off Smart Rotate, which rotates widgets based on time of day, Siri suggestions, etc. THAT is what my final solution was. I toggled off Smart Rotate on my left side with my clock, and leave it on on the right side widgets and those can toggle from weather to reminders, to calendar, etc.

It all seems to work exactly as I expect now.

Well after living with the random changes on standby mode I found this thread. Didn’t find a definitive solution so I spent some time trying to figure it out. Well after two days I have the same standby screen remaining steady. I long pressed while the phone was in standby mode and deleted the widgets on each side of the screen that I didn’t use. I repeated the process on the other half of the screen leaving only one widget for either side. So far the standby screen has stayed as I expected it to. This will not help anyone who chooses to have multiple widgets but it does keep the two I want. Hopefully Apple will come up with a way to lock them down.

I’m on 17.1.2 and no longer have standby mode issues. Not saying that you don’t. It might be worth mentioning, however, that sometimes when you put your phone on the charger you may accidentally swipe the screen. If that’s what’s happening, simply swipe left or right to get back to the clock and calendar screen. I hope this is the solution. If not, I would suggest updating to the latest iOS release. Have a great day!

There's a reason I don't keep photos of myself in the Photos app......

Seriously, you should submit feedback to Apple using the link I gave above. The more data they get on the matter, the more likely something is to happen. As this is a new feature, I imagine Apple is looking pretty closely at the feedback.

I read that this was an issue primarily with the iPhone 13 series. I have an iPhone 13 mini. After I upgraded to iOS 17, stand-by mode was great -- it showed an analog clock on the left and the month calendar on the right -- plus it showed the charge percentage in the upper right corner. This worked great until last night. I plugged it in, set in on the stand, and then it was showing pictures from my photo album. This thing is possessed! I scrolled to the right and it showed me different clocks .. scrolled to the left and it showed my contacts on the right and the charge percentage on the left. What the heck? I never changed or customized any of the widgets or settings of stand-by mode -- I liked it just the way it was. I tried tweaking it for about 10 minutes and sort of got it back to the way it was, but why did it decide to switch all this up on it's own? I've searched the forum in vain to find a way to make stand-by mode go back to its default settings. (I know most post about the opposite problem -- it losing their customizations and reverting to default).

Yeah, I’ve submitted feedback to Apple twice regarding this issue. 17.0.3 was released and it wasn’t addressed. I wonder if this has something to do with Apple’s attempt at making Night Mode settings/preferences unique for each MagSafe connection. But the issue still occurs when I connect my iPhone 15 Pro Max to power using a USB-C cable, so who knows?
