icloud sync in seemingly endless loop after Sonoma update

This appears to be a temporary condition. It looks like Sonoma might be updating the file attributes for everything that is synced via iCloud, and if there is a lot this can take a very long time. Mine ran overnight but was done by the next day.

If you are a little bit technical, you can watch this process by installing an application called fswatch and running it.

Via homebrew, it can be installed like this:

brew install fswatch

and then you can run it with:

fswatch --event-flags ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/

Once it is done (again many, many hours later, most likely) then it will stop constantly printing new lines to the screen. You can use Control-C to exit the application at any time.

icloud keeps syncing, never ends. stuck in a loop. When I connect HOTSPOT, it uses 10GB of mobile data each connection. Wifi hotspots blacklist me for abuse. Now Im stuck cannot use device to connect. Brand new macpro 14" M2 and useless due to this glitch!

I'm not trying to do a Time Machine back up. But iCloud Drive has been trying to update since yesterday and for some folders is repeatedly trying to sync. They seem to finish and then the folder will again show as unsynced. I seem to remember this happening with another OS upgrade at some point. Hopefully it gets resolved.

If you remove Sonoma will things return to normal is all lost?

I have never tried to downgrade macOS. In my case the sync fixed itself after about 12 hours of running.
