Issues with MacOS 14 Sonoma login page

I upgraded my MacBook Air M2 to Sonoma today for testing, before upgrading my important computer. My wife, who is visually impaired, will hate the new login screen with the tiny avatar pics at the bottom that she won't be able to find. Before with Ventura and previous, she could click on her big avatar pic in the middle of the screen and get going. The new layout will frustrate her. I'm not happy with it either.

Also, I went to "Lock Screen" to make sure that "Show Sleep, Restart, Shut Down buttons" is on. It is. When I logout, they do not appear anywhere on the lock screen. This is a bug!!!

hate it too. There used to be a home screen with my profile pic and place to log in and profile pic and place to log in for husband. Once I logged in my Home Screen would show. Now when I log out it doesn't go back to home page. My wallpaper still shows and at bottom like you said is my icon and if I hover over it my husband's icon appears for log in option. If he logs in and out then his wallpaper stays there until next time one of us logs in. Annoying. Why do they have to change this insignificant crap? To annoy us? Also I can't get screen save to show. All there is after a while is a black screen. So much for the rolling hills screen saver. Not happy.

So I figured this out on my Mac Mini. The Lock Screen will always go black after a few seconds, but if you don’t lock it and let it automatically go in to screen saver mode it will stay on for however long you choose in your settings. Lock Screen is just that, it locks and shuts it down. Now I have my screensaver turn on after three minutes of inactivity and it remains on for three hours. It also prompts for a password as soon as it goes to screensaver mode, which I wanted.

I absolutely HATE the new login screen for Sonoma as well. Every single time I need to switch between users I have to manually move the cursor over the user I want to switch to, which was not what it used to be like. I used to just select from the user menu at the top of the screen, use my fingerprint and done. There's a whole extra (pointless) step. Not to mention they moved all the Shut Down, Sleep, and Restart buttons to the upper right hand side. UGH!

I agree I hate it. Home screen now is the wallpaper for whatever user logs off. Also, I am having problem whereby the cursor is invisible except on task bar at bottom when I try to move it up to box in middle screen to log off. I have to move the box to top of screen and then the blue log off button turns white then bring it back to middle screen and then cursor lets me click on it. They need to undo this update and correct it.

This regressive approach to the login screen is straight up unnecessary. You've taken something functional and made it less so, for spurious reasons, if not purely for eye candy purposes. The only way you can fix it in its current state is to make all of the text shown there much larger, and also the input fields. If not a change offered to all users by default, make it a configuration option.

I also dislike the new login screen of Sonoma because the picture and password window are almost invisible for older people. Since there is a significant space available in the middle of the screen, and I enjoyed the smile of Me-Moji on Ventura, I have been searching for a way to adjust the size. Unfortunately, there are no adjustment options available.

I am not impaired but for me too, the login screen on Sonoma is a big step backwards. I understand the intention to not interrupt a nice background. But I am not getting to the login screen to watch backgrounds (who does anyway). I need one thing only, and that is to log in. So, logically the login information and input field need to be big and at the center. I do not get that unhealthy fixation on backgrounds anyway (and I AM a designer).

I figured out one of the issues I’m having with the login screen.

I have a personal account and a work account. Both have my index fingerprint assigned to them. In the past, before Sonoma, there was no problem recognizing which account I wanted, using the same finger, as long as I correct chose the account. Now, under Sonoma, it would constantly log me back into the previous account even if I physically chose the other. So, I have had to add a new finger (the middle) to my work account, and delete the index finger from that account in order to go back to a smooth transition between accounts. A bit silly.

Seems like nobody actually uses these before making these kinds of changes. Time would be better spent on fixing apps like Itunes/Music and Mail. Tiny font, hiding sleep/restart/shutdown buttons in a tiny menu upper right. I'd say that's not how I was trained in UI/UX guidelines as an Apple developer, but then I'd probably get my post taken down again like this:
