So you can’t change the default timer tone in iOS 17? It’s affecting my work!!

I can no longer change the default timer for when I say “hey siri, set timer for 15 minutes”. It plays some super quiet tone that I can’t hear while I’m working. If I want to change it to one of my own that’s 4x louder, I have to stop and set a timer manually. Which causes a problem with my job. Yeah sure it takes only like a minute, but at my job, it’s a big deal.

why did Apple remove the custom default timer tone option?? What is the possible benefit of this? Even worse, why did they set it to the quietest tone they could??

Your suggestion doesn’t solve that problem. Great if you want to manually start a timer (and manually choose the sound every time) but we are talking about defaults and activation via Siri.

After updating to iOS 17.1 delete all the recent timers at the bottom of the timer app.

Create a new timer for 15 seconds or so (manually, not with Siri) and choose the default sound you want.

Then put your phone to sleep while you wait for the timer to go off.

After it goes off and you stop it, then ask Siri to set a new timer for 15 seconds and it should be set to the last sound you used above.

I just tried it with my iPad Pro 12.9 running iOS 17 and it worked for me. Assuming the clock app looks/works exactly the same on all iPads:

Open the timer app and at the bottom, to delete them, tap the X on the left of each recent timer.

NOT using Siri, manually create a 10 second timer with the default sound you want. Let it go off. Then go back and do the same thing, manually creating a new timer with the same default sound you want but this time set it for 15 seconds. Let it go off.

Now ask Siri to set a timer and it should now use the new default sound you wanted.

Yep, 17.1 for sure. No worries man, thanks for trying, I have no idea why it works for some and not for others but I found a workaround for my personal situation, teaching my mother to ask Siri for a "sleep timer" specifically, whenever she asks that, it does what I need and cuts off the music/podcast you're playing when the timer ends regardless of the timer settings, so it works for what I needed.

Good day!

For those who use set times for eye drops or breathing with cancer, have you considered using a Reminder? That is customizable and you can change the default sound. Before my eye surgery, I used a couple Reminders and calendar events.

For those who use different timer times, I feel your pain and wish Apple would fix this. I change the radial and next time I use Siri, not only does it use radial, it changes the default!

I tried manually setting a 10s then 15s timers. Then asked Siri to do a 30 second timer. The first time I did the sequence I did not lock my phone and of course it was radial that sounded. I did the 10s then 15s timers then locked my phone and asked Siri to do a 30 second timer. Radial again.
