Replaced Intenal SSd with External NVME, and i keep getting WindowServer Crashes
Hello all!
I have a preplexing Problem I'm trying to suss out. I have a 2017 iMac 21" Intel i5, connected by one of its ThunderBolt ports to HDMI to a 32" Roku Smart Tv ( for extended Monitor) that I had previously had a 1TB SSD Sandisk drive running OS Mojave 10.14.6. The disk got to the point of being 95% full ( I do a lot of video editing on it) and decided to expand the storage. I bought a 2TB Intel M.2 NVME drive and put it into a ORICO Aluminum M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, Tool-Free 10Gbps USB C Adapter, USB 3.2 M.2 NVMe Reader
(Realtek RTL9210B-CG chipset) all from newegg.com. I then did clean install of OS Ventura 13.6, and then performed a Migration of my user home folder from the Monterey Disk to this new disk, and the erased the Internal SSD to make it my new (only) FCP Scratch Disk. So now my External M.2 is my main boot drive.
Since then, I've had weird issues where If I try to remote into the iMac from outside my LAN, to check on render jobs going to final output, or to just copy files to a connected 5tb WD USB 3.0 External drive, via Apple Remote Desktop, The system will first randomly lock the screen, prompting me to log back in, and then it will do this about three or four times. after the fourth time, the WindowService on the Mac will crash, and I am unable to use ARD to remote into the iMac.
ARD can see it, and ping is possible, but ARD reports that either the "firewall is blocking it, or it is offline".
When I drive home, and sit in front of the iMac, the keyboard and mouse is unresponsive, and I have to reboot the iMac to get it to be responsive again.
The system operates normally if I'm actually in front of it ( I'm typing this question on it now). It only acts up
when I try to remote into it from outside the LAN.
I'd like to figure this out and how best to troubleshoot it. I've googled and some people say to check the firmware of the enclosure, and possibly flash it. Others say change the enclosure or the cable.
I've included the last Crash Report from the system, and I've also included the ETRECheck report, all as one document ( the Crash report is at the leading top of the document).
I also recently installed Sleep Center, as I read that it may be the disk going to sleep and into standby mode, that is causing the issue. So i tried today to set the computer to not go to sleep & to prevent external disk sleep, but that had no affect.
thank you for any help in advance.
