Microsoft Office Home & Business 2021 for Mac bugs on macOS 14 Sonoma

Hi,

I am an early adopter of macOS Sonoma and own a Microsoft Office Home & Business 2021 license running version 16.77.1.

Today, after editing in Word one document which was created with the same MSO Home & Business on the early macOS 13.6 Ventura, I found two bugs:

- all the full-black bullets have been transformed into empty squares;

- the margins of my original document have been deviated and not kept as they were initially saved in the document while running MSO Home & Business 2021 in macOS 13.6 Ventura, therefore, anyone with a calibrated document template must redo the document calibration from scratch.

Am I the only one experiencing this issue? Is Microsoft doing anything to address a software update for my current version? I know that the latest bug fixes could be offered in an O365 subscription, but I want to avoid going in that direction because it does not fix my problem.

Also, how does Microsoft plan to address the calibration of the document margins when a newer macOS version is being released? Are these settings stored within each document or do they get lost each time I upgrade macOS to a newer version?

I recommend upgrading macOS Sonoma only after Microsoft addresses the current MSO with an upgrade that fixes these problems to avoid trouble with your critical MS Word documents.

As a test, try booting into safemode to see if MSOffice behaves the same way there as it does from your default login. This will help to see if it's something causing the problem with your profile or login. Let us know if it is the same problem or not. The bullet problem sounds like it could be a missing font problem.

Are we both having macOS 14.0 Sonoma and Microsoft Word for Mac, version 16.77.1 with Office Home & Business 2021 license? The problem appears when you try to save the .docx as .pdf as "best for printing".

Hi, wondering if you also encounter the same issues with Microsoft Office for Mac. Mine cannot render certain fonts properly. But this only happens in Ms. Office, other softwares like Adobe work fine. I have asked in the Microsoft Community, and some folks suggested to upgrade to Sonoma 14.1 - which I did, but problem still exists.

Any ideas how to resolve this problem?

I use Arial all over the document, so I can guess that it's not a standard font issue.

I saw on this page that Microsoft released 3 updates in October and one in November for macOS Ventura last year, so I think Microsoft is already working on this problem and will address a fix soon.

Regarding the misplacement of the borders in my existing document created under Microsoft Office for Mac in macOS Ventura, that's another bug.

Unfortunately, I am pressured by the time and do not have time to do additional troubleshooting.

Let's hope for the best in the following updates coming from Microsoft. :)

I see the same problem on both macOS Sonoma + Word running in my MacBook Air M2 and Mac Studio M1, so it's an incompatibility related to the versions I reported. I installed macOS Sonoma over the old one, not as a new one.
