Disable Caps Lock Indicator on macOS Sonoma
A feature has been added to macOS Sonoma - the onscreen caps lock indicator.
While i am sure this may be useful for some, for me it is not, is there any way to disable it?

OK maryo10 and others asking, here goes. There is nothing magic about using Terminal for Apple if you follow the steps verbatim and copy and paste the Command exactly as printed from a trusted source.
First you have to be logged on your computer as the Administrator. In other words you need to be logged on and able to make changes by entering your username/admin password.
Here is how to access the Terminal app
Go to Applications/Utilities/Terminal App. Open The Terminal App
Once open Click Return/Enter (you should see your computer name and your user name) Now you are ready to enter the command
Copy and Paste (do not try to write it) the command that yochess posted. Disable Caps Lock Indicator on macOS Sono… - Apple Community The post is the third post I believe.
I will reprint it here but all credit goes to yochees This command has worked perfectly for me. MacBookPro running Sonoma
Make sure you copy and paste exactly as written. No spaces and no deletions.
With Terminal app open and your username showing copy the first line of the command and paste to the Terminal app.
Click Return/Enter and it will ask for your admin password. Enter password and click Return/Enter
First line of command
sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain
Now copy the last two lines of the command and paste to the Terminal app.
Click Return/Enter.
Last two lines of command
sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Add 'redesigned_text_cursor:Enabled' bool false" /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/UIKit.plist
Now restart your computer. All done.
Hope this helps.
It's truly maddening. Blocks me from seeing the line below as I edit. Also, for whom is this even helpful? I know I'm in caps lock WHEN THE WORDS I TYPE ARE IN ALL CAPS. I don't need a distracting, superfluous arrow screaming in my face.
The caps lock symbol has made my work miserable. The line of code suggested in this thread worked like a dream. But should a line of code in Terminal be the solution? I remember when you didn't have to be a software engineer to operate a Mac.

Apparently, APPLE does not respond in this forum. It is frustrating.
No, they do not. That is explained in the Terms of Use to which we all agreed when we signed up. This is a user-t-user technical support forum. But this forum is filled with very knowledgable people, including some who explained how you can disable the Caps Lock indicator in this very thread.
The new caps lock UI "feature" in Sonoma is unwelcome to me. It seems to be related to the fact that the Keyboard Shortcuts -> Modifier Keys -> Caps Lock key parameter in System Settings no longer works in Sonoma 14.1.2. This is incredibly frustrating. I don't want a Caps Lock key. For years I used keyboards where the Control key was comfortably in this space on my keyboard. MacOS used to let me have this, and System Settings claims that I can. Please fix this bug, or be honest and remove the Caps Lock parameter altogether (which will force my hand to write event interceptor code to make this work for myself).

So you are saying that system settings > keyboard > keyboard shortcuts > modifier keys > caps lock is control no longer works in Sonoma?
(I am running Ventura at the moment, it works fine there)

Or, they are wonderful at thinking of things. I really like this feature. It's good to keep in mind that not everyone has the same preferences. Implying people are stupid because the don't like the same things you do is not very kind.
This solution seems to work. Since doing this I've had some (likely) unrelated issues in one program. If possible could you post the "undo" for the above to see if that's the issue? I would just like to rule it out as its a new issue that popped up right after doing this. Thanks!
@yochees
Would you kindly be able to post how to reverse this? It worked for me but I immediately after I started having one annoying issue in one program which I assume is unrelated. I would like to confirm this isn't causing that issue prior to going down a rabbit hole trying to fix that. Thanks!

When I click on the arrow icon, as has been suggested, yes the icon goes away, but it also turns CAPS off and I'm back to typing in lower case.
You have to re-enable Caps Lock and the symbol should not reappear until you disable Caps Lock again.
This feature has got to go!!! I take lots of notes and use it constantly on and off.
I’d rather learn without the annoying reminder! Been just fine without it for years. Now it’s driving me crazy.

You can certainly let Apple know your thoughts here:
Meanwhile, you can implement the solution that has been given repeatedly in this thread.

CLEARLY MOST IRRITATING FEATURE THAT I GET ANNOYED EVERY OTHER MINUTE I USE MY LAPTOP. PLEASE APPLE REMOVE THIS FEATURE. THIS IS VERY VERY VERY ANNOYING AND FRUSTRATING TO USE.
Clearly, it is a feature that you need, as I know you would not have intentionally been so rude as to leave your caps lock on and shout as us, your fellow users.
The problem is that this is not a solution; it’s a workaround.
Don’t get me wrong — it was kind of the poster to put this up for others, but most users are not comfortable with anything command line. They want ease of use, which is what makes macOS attractive in the first place.
This “feature” should be an accessibility option that is user-controlled and either defaulted to Off or shown off with a yes or no to set.
When people take the time to actually post their frustrations here, they’ve likely been frustrated for a while and are moving from the silent majority.
The problem with this type of “solution” is that it modifies setting that can cause future problems when Apple implements changes to change the behaviour (which may be larger scale than just this).
Again, the poster of this workaround was kind to offer it, but these should always come with a buyer beware qualification so that others are aware.
Hello - I appreciate your solution! However, after using it for several weeks, I think it may be affecting a couple of programs that I regularly use in a negative way. How can I re-enable the (annoying) the blue caps-lock indicator?
T H A N K Y O U!
This did not work for me. Turned on Caps Lock, got the arrow. Clicked the arrow. Arrow disappears. Entered text. Switched to non-caps lock, typed text. Switched to caps lock, arrow appears again.
Any suggestions?
