My MAC book pro system was on 13 latest version. But today I got a software update to 14. But after performing the update, the Finder is not responding at all. all the other app seems to work ok.
Someone please help urgently!

Turning off iCloud Drive fixed the problem...

Did you try disabling iCloud Drive? That’s worked for a lot of people.
until your update, Icloud is crazy nuts... we were so happy... and you made it wrong... AGAIN !
I can’t delete the file. No option on secondary click and it just doesn’t go into the trash when I try to drag it.
Turning off iCloud did not work for me with a 2020 iMac running Sonoma 14.1.2. I've been fighting with this (or some variation of it) since I updated to Sonoma nearly 2 months ago.

14.2 did not work, in fact it was after I updated to 14.2 that my finder went black.
Does anyone know if the update Sonoma 14.2.1 has fixed the problem of finder not working? I am using Ventura until I know if it is fixed.

My external Drive is for Time Machine backups and a secondary Photo Library and contains a terrabyte of data. Is there a way to find out if its format is APFS?

The model of external drive you provided a link for is also offered in 4 TB and 5 TB models. I would get one of those, they are only slightly more costly. It looks like an excellent product.
