Issue with replying to text on CarPlay with iOS 17

After listening to a text on carplay, Siri asks if I want to reply. I will then speak out a text. Siri then asks send it or change it? I'll either say send it or I'll push the button to send it... but there is no text sent. I've noticed that about 50% of the time, the reply just doesn't exist. Not only did the other person not receive it, but it isn't even on my phone as a text.

This problem only started happening to me with ios 17. What gives?

ios 17, iPhone 12 Pro Max, carplay

According to my local dealer, Lexus and Apple are aware of this issue and an iOS update is expected soon.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

But I’ve discovered a workaround. After speaking to text, Siri asks if you want to send it…then we say “YES” and wait. This we get the goofy error message. The work around is, after speaking the message and after Siri asks to send it TAP THE SEND UP ARROW YOURSELF—DON’T WAIT. The message will be sent.

I was convinced this was a lexis issue, too, but after going rounds with both Lexus and Apple, it seems that perhaps it is an apple issue. Lexus explained that CarPlay is an Apple interface, and no matter what updates they do on their end will not have any impact. Apple must fix the glitch via an update through the Apple iOS. I’m not sure why everyone doesn’t seem to be affected, but Apple is failing us.

I updated to 17.4 and have noticed that it seems to be better at sending texts. I haven't had it time out/glitch except maybe once.

There is still the issue when trying to reply and it will listen and then type what Siri is saying, such as "what do you want to say to Bob?" That has happened many times and so only I respond to a few people who know what my car's issues are and won't question bizarre phrases getting sent to them.

Not sure about others, but the volume only drops, but does not cut out when listening to radio and using Siri. Podcasts pause and then auto resume. Haven't tried other sound sources yet (Music, Spotify, etc.). This makes it tough to communicate with Siri as well.

Yes, SO socially awkward to deal with! Apple Support acknowledges it's a glitch but then says, "Do you want to troubleshoot this? We can talk on another phone while you try." What is this, 2001? I don't have a landline for us to use, guys. That, AND, if it's a glitch, only the engineers can fix it! Engineers, let's go! This is CLEARLY A PROBLEM MANY PEOPLE HAVE.

I also have a 2024 Lexus NXh350 and have been experiencing these same issues since late November. I’m going crazy! I just bought a new iPhone 15 thinking that would fix the problem, but no. I found this thread today and realized it may in fact be a Lexus issue. Has anyone been able to figure this out yet? I’ve spent hours on the phone with Apple support and they don’t have a solution. Lexus is also not taking ownership.

I thought I had the problem resolved on my 2024 Kia EV9 but alas it has resurfaced. I’m running 17.3 (updating to 17.3.1 right now) and I’ve just updated the car’s system.

Fixed briefly with 17.3, but now we are back to rudeness (what do you want?), failure to find a location I didn’t ask for, and not finishing sentences. I tried turning off auto-send but no luck. Guess for now I’ll just keep hitting the speak button to shut her down when I sense she might be wandering off track. 🙄

It seems some of us have similar and different issues with the 17 upgrade. I have a 2024 ES350. Mine is "Hey Siri send a text to Mary Lou" Siri says "What do you want to say to Mar" and stops there. I say "I love you" Siri waits and says " There are no locations found" If I tap the Siri circle while spinning immediately after I say "I love you", Siri sends to Mary " What do you want to say to Mary I love you"

This is so frustrating, I used a landline phone to call Apple, they heard what happens they say Lexus hasn't updated their software. I got in touch with an executive at Lexus customer service and she said, I don't see any issues on our end go to a dealer and start the process, I said its all over the web this issue with Lexus and the Apple phone that upgraded to the latest software.

I tried my sons android phone and no issues there. Apple had me do a complete reset, no help. So I am in the middle waiting for an software upgrade from one of these companies. Sucks !!!!

I am also having the same issues with Siri and texting. Most other functions are fine (set reminders, ask weather/sports, etc.). I also noticed issues when asking to play music on Spotify too.

2024 Hyundai Kona EV - US.

I reset my connections numerous times, reset the infotainment system to factory settings, and tried other iPhones (15, 14, 11). All have issues.
