iMac (2017 – 2020)
I own several USB DACs and not all USB DACs are affected but this is one of them Sonoma OS does not recognize it, and I have never installed additional drivers or anything with that DAC that worked under all the other Apple OSX.
Very unfortunate and I am not sure if Apple can fix it - a very minor group so it does not seem to have a rationale from the business point of views. Could be just "sorry and you need to get in touch with the DAC manufacturer and ask for driver to be compatible with Sonoma or you have to downgrade to Ventura" .
Very sensible business wise, but from users this is a very disappointing outcome.
May be you need to install some external software included with your DAC.
I have updated to Sonoma but I wiped my entire hard drive for a clean install, so I lost access to my Audient EVO-8 mixer software until I reinstall it. I have not connected it yet, holy cap.
I hope it keeps working although now I expect the worst.
If it is "Class Compliant" it should work in Sonoma right?
If it is not, I wonder how it worked in previous macOS versions without installing 3rd party software.
This is indeed very unfortunate. I'm using a Mac Mini M1, a modern computer, and one feature stopped working all of a Sudden. I completely wiped my hard drive several times without even using Time Machine to restore backups but it didn't work. I have an open Case with Apple Support since months ago, and it is even a much harder to digest experience that the BUG itself, that has been proved, tested, debugged, recorded with remote assistance by Apple, documented with logs, waiting for months to a fix in Sonoma that has not been fixed while my computer has been slowed down by far too much.
I sympathize. Same thing for me with my FiiO q3...
