What is the smiley face icon next to the time for?

iPhone 11 Pro Max

I don’t know how to reproduce this occurrence. It seems to show up whenever I’m swipe typing, but it shows up at other times as well. I see it a lot now. It appears to be new.

It’ it shows up where the location arrow shows up; it replaces the arrow when it does show up. It shows up frequently.

You can see it on the upper left hand side next to the time.

We'd like to help you find out what the icon means. Looking over New features available  with iOS 17 we do not see what you mention. If you could provide us with a few more details so that we can possibly see what you're referring to.
