iMessage taking up too much storage space on Mac

Hi Apple Dev/product team,

Pain point: My Mac has storage of 256GB, but 70GB of the storage is taking up my iMessage (Videos and photos).

Solutions provided from previous posts:

🚫 I would like to be able to receive the send messages on my Mac, so disabling the iMessage from iCloud isn't really an option.

🚫 I also would like to keep my photos and videos in chat history so I have the full history of the conversation which makes the files contextual and keeps memory fresh and in order.

💡Suggestion: I have been an Apple user since 10 years ago and all of these photos and videos that I have exchanged with iMessage seems reasonable to have them stored in iCloud instead of on device (Download on demand).

  • (Shall we say files over 30 days old will be automatically staged to iCloud, so we can have a lean Mac to work and communicate).

Additional Note: I am only talking about the MacOS here, but same thing could easily to applied to iOS and iPadOS.

Thank you,

N
