iPhone 15 Pro Max freezes when trying to dial

Hello everyone,

I have a new iphone 15 pro max with an esim. Updated ios 17.01 software.

It will make phone calls and connect to the internet but the dialing keypad will freeze after making a call or two. It has done so repeatedly. When that happens going into call history fails also. Clicking on a previously dialed call results in nothing.

The only solution is to reboot the phone. It will then successfully dial and make calls but it will freeze again a short time later.

Dialing - even when it does make calls - is laggy. The numbers sometimes take a few seconds to appear on the screen.

When it does freeze up, depressing a key causes the key tone to sound but no number appears on the screen.

Don't know if this is hardware or software related or some combo but it's definitely a serious problem.

Hi Bluesteel310,

We'd love to help see if we can resolve the issue for you, if it has not already been resolved. Did you transfer data from an old device to the new one? We ask because sometimes the data is still working on transferring in the background, and that can cause things to be a bit wonky until it is done. You mentioned rebooting the device stops the issue temporarily, and that would also pause the transfer as well. It has been a couple of days since you asked, so if the issue is resolved, that was likely the problem. If not, there is an update available for your device, we recommend you install it and see if that takes care of it. To update, make sure you have a current backup, and follow the steps below.

My device is fully updated. 17.0.2. It’s not downloading in the background. It’s still not making calls. This is a $1000 phone that’s not capable of making a call.
