Apple USB cable bandwidth

Using an iMac M1 2021 running Ventura 13.5 I have been using an Apple USB C to USB C cable to transfer data from SSDs to my iMac. Transferring 800Gb took about 5 hours. By chance I then used a cable that came with the SSD (Samsung T7) and the transfer time reduced to about 20 minutes. Amazing reduction, or it seems to be. Is this what I should expect? And if so, why is the Apple cable so slow?

Yes, that's a normal situation. Not all cables are "high speed".

The Apple part you reference is not a cable as such, it's an adapter. It's not necessarily designed for high speeds, but rather to facilitate different ports being usable. As to the specific "why" you'll have to ask the Apple designer, or the team, that developed it what their reasoning was.
