A hyphen appears between email address after iOS 17 update

On texting a long email address a dash / hyphen appears when the text moves to the next line. Even the recipient gets the text with the dash if using iOS 17. I am using iPhone XS with iOS 17.0.2 update.

This dash obviously makes the email address confusing as the recipient feels there is a dash in the email address.

Example: The email I typed was "abcdefgh@verylongemailaddress.com", as seen in the picture a dash got added when it moved to the next line. So the recipient received the email as "abcdefgh@verylonge-mailaddress.com" which is not the correct email address. Please fix this dash issue asap as it has become impossible to send long email address by text.

I was able to get it to stop hyphenating by toggling "OFF" on Larger Text under "Settings>Accessibility>Display & Text Size>Larger Text" AND "Settings>Display & Brightness>Text Size" and putting the slide at the bottom to the middle.

Hi drsanoberterai,

If you haven't done so yet, restart your iPhone. Although simple, this step can help correct some unexpected issues.

Since the app you're using isn't working as expected, these steps may be helpful: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

1. Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2. Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3. Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4. Delete the app, then redownload it
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

If the issue continues, reply with the answers to these questions:

  • Which app does this happen with?
  • Does it happen when you send long email addresses to a specific recipient?

Regards.

I tried this and it seemed to work well for longer email names. However, I did need to make my text size much smaller which impacted how I view all my emails. Great for an interim fix but I really hope Apple gets a fix out ASAP. Don't know how they missed this bug during their update testing. I thought I was going crazy the last couple of days seeing the "dash" and trying to figure out why it was happening.

Doesn't work. It will not show you YOUR phone with the very small text, but when you send to someone who doesn't have the small text, it will still show up on theirs. Now, with this NEW iOS, if you send an email to someone, they can't click on it and automatically go to emails and send one like you used to do. Why is Apple going backward on the iOS? I have 17.2.1 on my phone.
