How do I copy all iPad photos to a directly attached solid-state drive (SSD)?

Can all iPad photos be selected and copied, then pasted in a folder on a directly attached backup SSD?

I regularly backup files and folders to an attached SSD, whether it’s exFAT or APFS formatted, since I am using one iPad Pro (M1) computer.

Why would JPEG photos be portrayed as not being files, that can be copied, more than one-at-a-time, then saved on an external drive for backup purposes (?), in order to supplement iCloud, apparently since no system can be considered permanent, nor always reliable. 9/28/2023

Hello to278,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

The suggested method to create a full device backup is outlined here: Back up iPad - Apple Support

You can also use an external storage device with the Files app to manage or back up your files that way: Connect external storage devices to iPad - Apple Support

Please reply back if you have additional questions.

Cheers!
