iTunes purchases not downloading instantly

I have 2 ipad pros, and an iPhone. When I make a purchase on my itunes account it will download and not get stored on my local HD. This happens across all my devices so I’m thinking it is a setting in my itunes or apple account. The music will download eventually, but it is at random. I can view that I have purchased the music, but it comes up in the “Not on this ipad/Phone)” tab. I have tried this under multiple internet connections in multiple locations and even over data. The same problem happens each time. Any thoughts?

Hello yonbucher,

Just to clarify, it seems like you're able to access your music on your devices, but the content isn't downloaded for offline listening, is that correct?

If you want to be able to access music when you’re not connected to the internet, you'll need to download it to the device. These links will guide thought that process:

Add music to iPhone and listen offline

Add music to iPad and listen offline

Add music from Apple Music to your library

Do any of the following:

* Touch and hold a song, album, playlist, or video, then tap Add to Library.

* When viewing the contents of an album or playlist, tap near the top of the screen to add the album or playlist, or tap next to a song, then tap Add to Library to add that song.

* On the Now Playing screen, tap , then tap Add to Library.

To delete music from the library, touch and hold the song, album, playlist, or music video, then tap Delete from Library.

Music you add to iPhone is also added to other devices if you’re signed in to the iTunes Store and App Store using the same Apple ID and have Sync Library turned on (go to Settings > Music, then turn on Sync Library).

These are all great suggestions. I’ve tried all of these several times in the past. I cannot download upon purchase…. Period. Click buy, Face ID, and aways it starts to download. Upon completion of download, instead of a “play” button it shows “buy” if I click “buy” then Face ID it will prompt that I have already purchased this song and to down load it anyway…. I click download and away it goes. I can see the progress from iTunes, purchased, and watch it process. Then after it processes the song there it sits with a cloud next to the track. It shows I’ve paid for it and it is available to download, but it will then add it to my hard drive at random. Could be 5 min, 5 hours or half a day.

so the internet connection has zero to do with this problem. Or the settings in how to download the track. It is the same problem across multiple devices, which leads me to believe it’s through my iCloud or iTunes account.
