screen pixels turn black into blue

Hi,

Does anyone know what is going on with my screen? Black areas are showing up hyper blue.

The weird thing is that it mostly occurs in night mode and it's very dependent on what I do (e.g. as you see when i move the piece of the screen that is twitching in my screenshot frame, it appears to go away). It's very unlikely to be a hardware problem right?

I already tried resetting my mac to factory settings but it didn't help....

Can anyone please help me?

Thanks

Hi there michiel231,

Does this ever occur when your Mac is not in Night Shift? This link provides details about how Night Shift works: Use Night Shift on your Mac - Apple Support

Also, do you have any filters or color profiles set up on your Mac? Have a look at this support article:Change your Mac display’s color profile - Apple Support

Next, make sure you've updated your Mac to the most current software version available for it. Learn how to do that here: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

Take care.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your answer.

It does occur when my Mac is not in Night Shift but then it is much more subtle.

I have no color filters on and have installed the most recent update.

The problem still occurs. Since it is so dependent on Night Mode and on what I am doing on my screen (the problem changes intensity, for example, when I drag my box for a screenshot over it), it seems to me it is more likely to be a software problem? How could I fix this?

Thanks in advance,

Michiel

Hi michiel231,

Thanks for following up. To clarify, when you did the restore of your Mac, did you restore a Time Machine backup before testing it out again? Knowing this would help to narrow things down.

If you did restore a Time Machine backup after the erase of macOS, we recommend testing in both safe mode and a new administrator account to narrow things down. Testing in safe mode will help rule out a number of possible software causes, and testing in a new administrator account will tell you if the issue is user-specific or system-wide.

Here's how to test safe mode: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

And here's how to set up a new administrator account for testing: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

Then test to see if you can replicate the behavior in safe mode or in the new user account, and check out the links above for further steps you can take based on the results. Keep us posted on what you find.

Take care.
