IOS 17 Broke the Reminders Widget *In my opinion*

Having just updated to IOS 17 I was excited to see what was new, but I was devastated when I noticed that the reminders widget had a major overhaul. Before, on IOS 16, the widget was 2x2 and you could see 3 reminders. You could tap anywhere on this and get into the reminders app to see the rest. Now with IOS 17 the widget is interactive, but this means that it is really easy to clear your reminders on accident. So my proposal is having an option to have the interactive or the old, non-interactive widget. This way it becomes easy to tap on the widget without causing extra headache.

I agree 100%!

This slows me way down and I've lost items because of it.

I understand that an interactive widget might be nice for some. But if you can only "interact" with 3 of the items on your list - you can't scroll down - that seems pretty useless to anyone.

I use the smaller, minimal widgets as quick access buttons. They work great. But my most used widgets are 7 or 8 different reminders lists which I now have to be careful of tapping wrong or I lose data.

A compromise could be to allow the interactive function on the larger jumbo sized widgets where you have the real estate to play with, and keep the little ones as they were.

ccolemanhs -

Here's my method for dealing with Apple's new "Unintentional Reminder Item Deletion Widget".

Open the list and make sure "sort" is set to "manual. At the top of the list, create three entries with something like "OO" or "XXX". Now the widget will display those first three entries. If you accidentally tap in the item area to open your list, three things happen: your list doesn't open, one of your "XX's" is gone, (I have mine set to "Hide completed") and you will see an item you do need appear in the widget.

Until Apple allows toggling off "interactivity"...!

Sorry, my bad. It just was only showing reminders that were overdue rather than those due by the end of today. This edit to the first part of the script works better for me:

let cal = await Calendar.defaultForReminders()

let reminders = await Reminder.allIncomplete([cal])

reminders.sort((a, b) => {

return a.dueDate < b.dueDate

})

const today = new Date(Date.now())

reminders = reminders.filter((a) => (a.dueDate <= today))
