I’m getting SOS on my iPhone 15 pro max after porting my number from Xfinity mobile to Verizon

I’m new to Verizon. I’m trading in my iPhone 12 Pro Max which I was using on Xfinity mobile for an iPhone 15 pro max and ported my number over. It says it was successful but I’m getting SOS on both phones

iPad Pro, iPadOS 17

Getting Out of SOS Mode:

SOS means that you do not have Cellular service at this very moment, but you do have the option to make emergency calls. So, contact you Carrier to get your services back up and running.

Re: “… I ride the subways and when you loose service. SOS mode never happens …”

SOS only displays IF you have some transmission path AND aren’t connected to your own carrier’s network.

Examples:

IF you’re in a hole w/o ANY carrier signal you’ll NOT see SOS.

IF you’re above ground with ANY other carrier’s signal you’ll see SOS.

IF you’re above ground w/ NO carrier signal but a view of the satellite AND a capable phone, you’ll see the Satellite SOS indicator.

My husband is also experiencing a complete loss of carrier signal (we have spectrum mobile which uses Verizon’s towers). He’s been stuck with an SOS since last night around midnight after placing it on its charger. We’ve tried to turn it off and on; resetting the carrier/network settings; turning airplane mode off and on; and we’ve tried checking for a carrier software update (was none). Nothing has worked. Meanwhile, I have full bars and the ability to call/text right next to him with the same carrier on my iPhone 12 Pro. Seems to be an Apple software issue that likely needs an update beyond the iso 17.0.2 update.

I had this happen twice I live in NYC. My carrier is Verizon. The fix? Verizon moved my wife and daughter from the physical sim card to esim. According to the Verizon technician. When I asked what could have caused this? She claim's it could be the area you are in. That’s BS. Then said it could be damage to the physical sim card. How? Probably the phone was dropped, dust, a number of things. The reason why I said that is BS to the location. I had my 13 pro max since 2021 of October. I ride the subways and when you loose service. SOS mode never happens. You loose your LTE 4g or 5G status. When you come above ground your signal returns. NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE AT. That SOS sh*t started in 2023. I have been an iphone user since 2007. In all the models I’ve owned, I have never experienced sos mode. Me personally, (conspiracy theory) It’s some wild attempt to get the customers to keep upgrading. Or they are trying to create a reason to loose the physical sim card. Loose the physical sim card, so if your phone gets stolen your sim card cannot be flashed or cloned (I hope i used the right word) Anyway, it’s always some BS. Were paying good money for these hand held computer / phones. Like ****, can we get a phone carrier and a iPhone THAT WORKS AS DESIGNED? Seriously? 🤔😤😂

I’m not looking for responses to my issues. Simply providing the original author with confirmation that they’re not alone in their problem and details about what we’ve done personally that haven’t resolved the common issue we both share. I’m sure it’s an Apple iOS that needs to be resolved with a software update. But thanks so much for pointing that out.

Your explanation is proving my point. To a regular customer they do not care about that. Only IT people will get it. At the end of the day. SOS mode should not be appearing and getting clients phone stuck in that loop. To the point they either switching to airplane mode, resetting the network, OR HAVE TO SPEND AN HOUR on the phone with a service technician to fix the problem. Did I mention the sim card to e-simm switch? Oh I forgot to mention, My wife and daughter phones got switched to e-simm they no longer have the sos problem. I stand on what I am saying. That sos sh*t started recently. All my years of having an iPhone. I been with AT&T, Sprint(t-mobile) and now Verizon. Only with Verizon, sos and countless other things with this company has happened. On the mobile side. I appreciate you trying to play devils advocate.

I’m also getting this issue. iPhone 15 pro max. Went to use my phone for navigation while going into downtown Portland Oregon an it failed. I noticed my phone is showing SOS. I tried airplane mode, full reboot, switching on and off this line in settings. Nothing fixed it. Meanwhile my Passenger has 13 pro max. I had them check if they had signal and they did. After going into the mall and connecting to guest wifi. I called Verizon customer service. I was trying to get it figured out but instead I spent 10-15 arguing with the computer if I wanted to set up a voice password or this offer or that. Finally I hung up and left the area with free wifi. Suddenly my phone has signal again. I have had the phone one week. This is the third time this has happened.

I’m also getting the exact same issue with the exact same phone, iPhone 15 pro max, Verizon Carrier in Stratford/Trumbull, CT. Went to use my phone for contacting work and the call got cut off-- thought it was a signal pocket, but my phone would only show SOS. I also tried airplane mode, full reboot, switching on and off. Nothing fixed it. I called Verizon customer service and got automated bots that were not helpful and a text telling me directions to reset my phone which I have only had for 2-weeks. I had a meeting, so I left the issue and after it ended, I noticed that suddenly my phone has signal again. Reading all of these similar concerns, I am very anxious about having this phone as a reliable communication mechanism. I have timely, legally bound work that needs to be completed and my phone is often my connection. Highly concerned. I hope that Apple will work on this with Verizon to make adjustments for those of us who have made this investment.

I’ve had the same problem with my 15 pro max today, tried everything including turning off sos in settings nothing worked I even put the SIM card back in to old 7plus & signal straight away to verify reception ok, in the end after many restarts I turned off phone removed SIM card then put back in SIM card & restarted phone & signal returned sos gone. I’d tried previously taking out & replacing SIM card whilst phone was on but it didn’t work, only worked when doing it while phone off. I think the problem seems to be in the actual SIM card area of the phone. Hope this helps
