Buyer have to active iphone in store

I purchased and already pay full iphone15 pro 128GB in FPT website (Viet nam). But when I come to pick it up, the retailer required me to unbox and active the phone immediately in the store. I told them that I buy the phone as a gift, I can't unbox it, and they refuse to give me the iPhone and I have no choice to cancel the order.

That's is ridiculous, why Apple let their buyer activate the phone in front of the seller. That's really a bad experience buying iPhone, I waited until midnight to place the order but cannot receive the phone I want.

Return policies is a significant factor in why some countries, including India, require customers to unbox and activate their phones in the store. In India, and in many other countries, return policies for electronic devices, especially high-end ones like iPhones, can be more restrictive compared to some Western countries. Here's how return policies and unboxing/activation requirements can be related:

  1. Preventing Fraudulent Returns: Requiring customers to unbox and activate their phones in-store helps prevent fraudulent returns. Without this requirement, some individuals might purchase a phone, use it for a short period, and then return it claiming it's defective or unsatisfactory. Unboxing and activating the phone in the store ensure that the customer accepts the product's condition and functionality before leaving the store, reducing the likelihood of such return fraud.
  2. Quality Assurance: Unboxing and activation in-store can serve as a quality assurance step. Store personnel can check the phone's condition and ensure that it's functioning properly before the customer leaves the store. This reduces the chances of customers returning devices with legitimate defects that may have occurred after the purchase.
  3. Knowledge Transfer: It also allows store staff to provide essential information to customers, such as how to set up the device, install a SIM card, and address any initial questions or issues. This can enhance the customer's experience and reduce the likelihood of returns due to user-related problems.
