Yes, that is completely normal. After you finish updating and get into the Desktop, you gotta launch OCLP again and run "Post-Install Root Patch", that'll fix the Camera, Graphics Acceleration (including resolution) and WiFi.

No, a 2015 model is not compatible. Unfortunately Apple has been allowing incompatible upgrade options within Software Update for the past few years. It seems nothing can embarrass Apple.
Your laptop can only run up to macOS 12.x Monterey.

Well, with the OCLP boot loader, you can update to Sonoma.
I'll admit that I tried, and the issue I'm having is: the screen resolution is tiny (unable to change to a more reasonable viewing size), and wi-fi is disabled.
I'm looking for who might have advice on how to address these issues, short of starting over again with Time Machine.
Well there are several fixes for that. I don’t remember the app name but something like opencore
