I want to back up my Mac to iCloud now. Is the best option to use Time Machine? How to use it?

Hi Olena281,

Time Machine enables you to back up your entire Mac to an external storage device, like a hard drive or an SSD; Time Machine does not back up your Mac to iCloud. You can learn more about Time Machine here: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support

It is not currently possible to back up your entire Mac or its settings to iCloud, but there are a few things you can do to sync your important files in iCloud:

  1. You can add the Desktop and Documents folders on your Mac to iCloud, which will automatically sync every file in those folders to iCloud whenever you make changes. In the event you lose access to your Mac, your other iCloud-enabled devices will still have access to these files. You can learn more about enabling this here: Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive
  2. To sync any other files, you can simply move them to iCloud Drive. As long as you have "Optimize Mac Storage" disabled in Settings -> your name at the top -> iCloud, you can work with these files even when you're offline.

Please note the differences between backing up and syncing. The functionality I have described above is for syncing files; the files will be stored in iCloud, but they will still be the only copy of those files.
