iOS 17 iPhone Alarm Turns Off with StandBy Mode

When StandBy Mode is turned on and active while the phone is in the landscape position, if the alarm goes off and the phone is disturbed (taken off the charger/ slightly bumped off the charger, or taken out of StandBy Mode the alarm will actually completely turn off.

The reason I hope this is just a setting I can disable without disabling STandBy mode is I like to check the time throughout the night, however, when i wake up in the morning I'd rather press a physical button as I've accidentally pressed the wrong one. But now every time I barely touch my phone it will stop the alarm and not snooze it.

Yep, second time in a week that I overslept by an hour because my alarm was mysteriously off while in StandBy mode. Been using the Sleep alarm for years without any issue, StandBy is the only new variable, frustrating bc I just bought a stand just to use with StandBy!

Oh that’s interesting. I have a DND setting for sleep but my girlfriend has the permission to come through silently and she did message me after I had gone to bed. That would explain it. Decided to set an alarm on my iPad for 15 minutes later than my iPhone so I can safely experiment as well. Thanks for the taking the time to test and report back!

Same here, first night with a 3 in 1 magnetic charger for iphone, airpod, watch. Set the alarm at 6 (I use silent alarm, just vibration) and leaved the phone horizontal and standby was activated, I wake up to bathoom 3am without touching the phone and I noticed that screen was black by the time I came back and seems to detected my movement and started the standby mode again with clock in night mode. Alarm didnt started at 6

Last week I thought I put my alarm on snooze while on Standby. I overslept twice, not quite understanding. My IPhone 14 is plugged in and the phone cover has a small ‘kickstand’ which allows it to stand in portrait or landscape mode. This morning the alarm went off and I made sure I tapped Sleep. When it was supposed to ring the second time..I saw the options Sleep or Off (whatever the other choice is) appears from the top and then it went away..the alarm no longer in Sleep Mode..

I set around 15 alarms to go off in the morning to wake me up. (I’m awful at making myself get up). So I give myself time to snooze. Ever since I’ve updated the newest one, anytime I snooze, the other Alarms aren’t going off or something?

It has been true for years that, if you snooze an alarm and the snooze overlaps with a subsequent alarm, the subsequent alarm will not fire. So, either set your alarms to be more than nine minutes apart (and only snooze once) or diable this snooze function and just rely on the multiple alarms.

I have had this happen once. Iphone Xs (my 15 isn’t here yet) in landscape for the first time overnight. It was the first time I used standby mode overnight. Missed getting up by 30 mins, woke to find a prompt on the phone that indicates the alarm is going off. But its actually completely silent.

Completely beyond me how this gets through a beta to public release.

Disabled Standby and put the phone back in portrait overnight. Worked. Getting some trust back. I won’t be using standby until I have seen positive news on this one, shocking stuff, alarms are basic.

Yes… this is the issue I thought I was having! I just tested it out tonight. I set two alarms one minute apart and put my phone on the charger in landscape orientation so it would go into StandBy. The first alarm went off just fine… I could stop or snooze; however, after stopping the first alarm, my HomePod controls pop up and, when it’s time for the second alarm to go off, the alarm sounds for 1/4 of a second and then stops completely (not even enough time to notice it was going off if I had been fast asleep)! I wake up at 2:45am for work and this has been happening for a while and I thought I was just sleeping through my alarms or snoozing them from my watch, but glad to know that it’s just a glitch. Won’t be using StandBy for a while!! Hopefully there’s a fix coming soon, I really like the feature.
