iOS 17 iPhone Alarm Turns Off with StandBy Mode

When StandBy Mode is turned on and active while the phone is in the landscape position, if the alarm goes off and the phone is disturbed (taken off the charger/ slightly bumped off the charger, or taken out of StandBy Mode the alarm will actually completely turn off.

The reason I hope this is just a setting I can disable without disabling STandBy mode is I like to check the time throughout the night, however, when i wake up in the morning I'd rather press a physical button as I've accidentally pressed the wrong one. But now every time I barely touch my phone it will stop the alarm and not snooze it.

Possible fix (work around) got this from Reddit and seems to have worked for me.

Settings —> Accessibility —> Face ID & Attention —> Attention Aware Features OFF.

before this - was getting no alarms in standby mode, turned off standby and it worked fine. Really annoying as using in conjunction with Apple Watch and that wasn’t vibrating as it usually does with alarm in silent mode

changing the above setting makes alarms work again with Standby Mode: On.

Apparently “It thinks you are looking at the phone when the alarm goes off, so it silences it immediately”

the AttentionAware setting stops this happening ..or that’s theory anyway

I also thought I was crazy, am so glad to find this forum with hundreds of people saying this is a problem for them too, as there's some hope that Apple will fix it. Still a problem for me with iPhone 15 Pro and 17.3.1, I'd say 90% of the time my alarms work, 10% of the time, I wake up well after the alarm, the screen is on, the alarm is "going" but no sound (like it has been silenced or something). The phone is far enough from the bed on the nightstand that I'm not accidentally touching it and it's not being moved, but maybe it detects motion or something and turns off, or maybe if it has recently detected motion before the alarm goes off, it doesn't go off. Whatever is going on, it's super bad, and I guess I'll give up on using Standby until folks report that it's been fixed :(

I just bought a charging stand that allows for landscape mode for my iphone with the intention to use landscape mode since its a feature they offer. Little did I know, I've been sleeping in lately and missing meetings/events and I couldn't tell why. I realized today that my typical morning routine is to physically press the volume buttons to snooze the alarm once so I can gracefully wake up. This bug is still persistent as of 17.4.1 which my iphone version is currently on. I've had to disable standby mode completely in the meantime. It doesn't seem helpful that a snooze/cancel alarm screen pops up only while the iphone is on the charging stand as I'm attempting to gain eyesight while im waking up and need to pickup my iphone and press physical buttons instead. It certainly doesn't help that the alarm automatically shuts off and snooze is disabled once picked up off the charging stand

The alarm issue also impacts me on my iPhone 12 mini. Also found that standby mode breaks my custom setting for do not disturb and the notification summary feature—ignores it like I never set it up. Until this is fixed, standby mode is a worthless feature.

Worthless to you..... I love it.

Have you told Apple what you think? They are, after all, the only ones who can do anything.

Oh that’s interesting. I have a DND setting for sleep but my girlfriend has the permission to come through silently and she did message me after I had gone to bed. That would explain it. Decided to set an alarm on my iPad for 15 minutes later than my iPhone so I can safely experiment as well. Thanks for the taking the time to test and report back!

Same here, first night with a 3 in 1 magnetic charger for iphone, airpod, watch. Set the alarm at 6 (I use silent alarm, just vibration) and leaved the phone horizontal and standby was activated, I wake up to bathoom 3am without touching the phone and I noticed that screen was black by the time I came back and seems to detected my movement and started the standby mode again with clock in night mode. Alarm didnt started at 6

Last week I thought I put my alarm on snooze while on Standby. I overslept twice, not quite understanding. My IPhone 14 is plugged in and the phone cover has a small ‘kickstand’ which allows it to stand in portrait or landscape mode. This morning the alarm went off and I made sure I tapped Sleep. When it was supposed to ring the second time..I saw the options Sleep or Off (whatever the other choice is) appears from the top and then it went away..the alarm no longer in Sleep Mode..

The problem is when you have StandBy mode active and in Landscape to mimic the issue, disconnect the charging while the alarm is going, or slightly bump it off your MagSafe charging, it will automatically switch the alarm off without snoozing it. (I have bad eyesight and the last thing I want to do is look at a screen at night, so I used to press the volume button to snooze, now when I do that, I run the risk of switching the alarm off without it snoozing.
