iOS 17 iPhone Alarm Turns Off with StandBy Mode

When StandBy Mode is turned on and active while the phone is in the landscape position, if the alarm goes off and the phone is disturbed (taken off the charger/ slightly bumped off the charger, or taken out of StandBy Mode the alarm will actually completely turn off.

The reason I hope this is just a setting I can disable without disabling STandBy mode is I like to check the time throughout the night, however, when i wake up in the morning I'd rather press a physical button as I've accidentally pressed the wrong one. But now every time I barely touch my phone it will stop the alarm and not snooze it.

Possible fix (work around) got this from Reddit and seems to have worked for me.

Settings —> Accessibility —> Face ID & Attention —> Attention Aware Features OFF.

before this - was getting no alarms in standby mode, turned off standby and it worked fine. Really annoying as using in conjunction with Apple Watch and that wasn’t vibrating as it usually does with alarm in silent mode

changing the above setting makes alarms work again with Standby Mode: On.

Apparently “It thinks you are looking at the phone when the alarm goes off, so it silences it immediately”

the AttentionAware setting stops this happening ..or that’s theory anyway

💡 Solution: In order for morning alarms to ring while your iPhone is in StandBy Mode, make sure to set a “Sleep | Wake Up” alarm in the Clock or Health App for the time you want instead of setting a normal alarm. This worked well for me. The alarm plays loud and clear and the UI in StandBy includes a large snooze button, stop button, and even a nice good morning message. Hope that helps! :)

It's motion detection that turns off the audible portion of the alarm but still displays the stop or snooze button. I have overslept my alarm a couple times now while using standby and just figured out its because of the motion detection. I did a test where I turned my stand around to face the wall and the alarm sound was working just like it was supposed to and when I spun it around the sound shut off. I also reset the alarm again facing me and when it started to go off I waved my hand about a foot from the screen it shut the alarm sound off again.

I have looked for a setting to fix but can't seem to find one. Looks like I will have to go back to not using the standby mode. I loved the alarm clock on the phone but until they fix the issue I won't be using standby mode.

I have had this happen once. Iphone Xs (my 15 isn’t here yet) in landscape for the first time overnight. It was the first time I used standby mode overnight. Missed getting up by 30 mins, woke to find a prompt on the phone that indicates the alarm is going off. But its actually completely silent.

Completely beyond me how this gets through a beta to public release.

Disabled Standby and put the phone back in portrait overnight. Worked. Getting some trust back. I won’t be using standby until I have seen positive news on this one, shocking stuff, alarms are basic.

Yes… this is the issue I thought I was having! I just tested it out tonight. I set two alarms one minute apart and put my phone on the charger in landscape orientation so it would go into StandBy. The first alarm went off just fine… I could stop or snooze; however, after stopping the first alarm, my HomePod controls pop up and, when it’s time for the second alarm to go off, the alarm sounds for 1/4 of a second and then stops completely (not even enough time to notice it was going off if I had been fast asleep)! I wake up at 2:45am for work and this has been happening for a while and I thought I was just sleeping through my alarms or snoozing them from my watch, but glad to know that it’s just a glitch. Won’t be using StandBy for a while!! Hopefully there’s a fix coming soon, I really like the feature.

This is a serious issue that has to be addressed. Currently, it’s impossible to snooze an alarm once you touched your device. StandBy just cancels it.

Since StandBy gets automatically hidden once the device is picked up, the regular alarm overlay should be displayed.

I'll keep StandBy off until this issue gets fixed - I actually need to wake up in the morning.
