External iPhone monitor with touch capabilities

Hi there, first time poster here. Ive had a workflow issue I’ve been trying to solve for years now. I film for work using iPhone apps (like TikTok, etc) and I while I sometimes film videos with other cameras and upload them, I need to film in-app for many reasons.

The issue is that the phone often has to be far away from me to get the shot I need. My work is also set and prop heavy, so getting up and going over to the phone for every adjustment- or even just to see the shot at all- is extremely disruptive. I physically cannot see the screen from where I need to be to film, let alone reach it. Bluetooth “selfie” remotes do not work because of the editing and tuning you have to do for each shot in the UI of these apps.

I need to use some kind of external monitor for my iPhone that retains touch screen capabilities. I’ve tried ever handoff/mirroring/casting solution I can get my hands on. I tried an InnoView monitor recently which markets like it would do what I need, only to find out reading the manual that it pretty much can’t.

The viewSonic portable monitor seems promising, but their videos keep saying things like “especially for android” when they show touchscreen capabilities. And they only show mirroring demonstrations for iPhone. (And for some reason most of these monitors look like they don’t support mobile portrait mode? Which isn’t a total dealbreaker but I feel like that should be a no-brainer.)

I’ve tried using the iPad versions of these apps to film, since they seem to have more options for this kind of thing, but the camera just isn’t good enough- even if putting ipads on tripods and other camera equipment wasn’t a nightmare.

I’ve also used “film remotes” like Filmic Pro which allows you to use an iPad as a control for the iPhone version of their app, but that only works within that specific camera app. So it’s helpful for times when I’d normally switch to a DSLR with a monitor, but it doesn’t solve my “filming in specific apps on the iPhone” problem.

I feel like what I need shouldn’t be THIS hard, and I’m hoping I’m missing something simple. Has anyone figured out a way to make something similar work?

Thank you in advance. This has been plaguing me.
