Raise to Wake is turned off, but iPhone Xs keeps waking up when moved

Ever since upgrading to iOS 17, my iPhone XS is constantly waking up for seemingly no reason at all. I’ve turned off Raise To Wake and also in Accessibility, Tap to Wake is turned off as well. It just ignores that fact and keeps waking up whenever I pick it up, even when I don’t touch the screen. Sometimes when it just slightly vibrates, it wakes up - for instance when I put something down next to it on the table. When it’s in my pocket, it’s almost always awake. If there was a way to roll back the upgrade, I would. This is really annoying! Any ideas?

Hi Mike-Irzry,

If you have not already it may be worth verifying that the Raise to Wake setting is registered as inactive by toggling that feature on and then back off. Use Raise to Wake on your iPhone verified the location of that feature as "To turn Raise to Wake on or off, go to Settings > Display & Brightness."

If you find the screen often awake when it should not be, verify the screen is set to Auto-Lock at an appropriate interval to protect against accidental activation. You can check that in Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.

You may also check your Notification Center and apps that have access to background activity to verify that they are not waking the screen through notifications or updates as well. This can be found by going to Settings > Notifications.

Regards.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had already tried almost all of them, although checking Notification Center for background activity is a great idea I had not thought of. But I can say that the phone has been waking up on its own without a notification showing.

Having said that, the phone now works - inexplicably.

I had turned off and then reset all the same settings, then completely powered down the phone and restarted it a few minutes later, going through this entire routine at least five times with no success. The sixth time was the charm. I did nothing different. It now works as expected, but only after the sixth reboot. Maybe because this time it was sitting there powered off for about 1/2 hour? Weird, weird stuff.
