Not really possible. First off, Mac OS is the operating system, not iOS for MacBooks.
Secondly, the 2008 MacBook Pro can only be upgraded to Mac OS X 10.11.
If you haven't upgraded to 10.7 yet, you will lose older PowerPC app support.
The battery on it and its hard drive would need to get replaced if they haven't already, and you can replace with a SATA 2.5" SSD. Bring it to an authorized service provider if you want to do any internal work to it.
It is getting to be of the age, it may in a few years need capacitors worked on.
Batteries tend to last 2-5 years.
That model is too old for internet recovery, so you'll need to maintain the Snow Leopard installer disc to keep with it, in case someone needs to wipe and restore.
Good luck. I have a 2008 MacBook (not pro) that topped out at OSX 10.7.5. Safari and Firefox can't update to usable versions, and it can't access the App Store (even though it's logged into my iCloud account and updates Calendar and Address Book and things like that). On the other hand, it's fairly easy to upgrade the memory and storage, both of which I did when it seemed to be slowing down. Storage upgrade you need to go to owc.com or somewhere like that, but memory instructions are in the manual:
https://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/0/MA427/en_US/MacBookPro_Early2008_UserGuide.pdf
OWC is probably a good place to get memory chips.
With the upgrades, the things it can still do it does well.
The hard drive is a bit harder to access than the RAM on these machines. The temperature sensor is a thin cable that can easily break when you do it yourself. So be very careful. Only unscrew the mount closest to the DVD drive. Then disconnect the SATA and power connectors. Same precautions apply to upgrading the hard drive as the RAM in terms of static electricity. If you think there is any risk that you might touch circuitry, stop and carefully close the machine, and bring it in to an authorized service provider.
