Audio takes ~10 seconds to kick in

For all applications & all output devices, there's about a 10 second delay between the time I hit 'play' and the time the video/song/file's audio starts playing. It will be in sync but it's like it takes a few seconds for the very sound waves themselves to bounce down the wires, talk to the chips etc etc before they find their way out of the speakers or headphones. It's a 2021 Macbook Pro and since it's Apple, I'm assuming there's a simple fix that they've hidden. Lil help?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.0

Hello james_d_h,

We'd be happy to help. It sounds like your Mac is running slowly. To try to resolve the issue we recommend following the steps here: If your Mac runs slowly - Apple Support

If the issue continues, boot your Mac into safe mode. "Starting up your Mac in safe mode can help you identify whether issues you’re experiencing are caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up." Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

If the issue continues after both of those steps, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support: Get Support

Thanks.
